Soil Test?

Was wondering where everybody goes to have their soil tests done?

I was going to go to a local testing laboratory, but wasn't sure if it was better to send it out to somebody that specializes in this type of thing for farming purposes.

I use Whitetail Institute for several reasons. The kit they sell has everything you need except the dirt and a garden trowel. They give your results by email in a few days. They recommend fertilizer based on the crop. Easy !

Whitetail and Biologic both outsource their testing to this company. So I just go direct to them. Super fast turnaround, with emailed results... and a bit cheaper I believe.

There are also more detailed tests available than through the food plot companies, and you can ask for separate fertilizer recommendations for multiple possible crops. That comes in handy if you haven't made up your mind on what to plant, or are planting different crops in the same field.

FYI -- This is what you get with the company I use (I had the wrong link in the post above, though prices and abilities look same at both).

NOTE -- I tested for OM, soil profile and micronutrients in addition to the usual stuff. Results were emailed within a few days. Their contact info. is at the top of the form.

Anyone looking at advanced soil testing might be interested in this soil manual available free via download from the Cornell soil testing site.
https://soilhealth.cals.cornell.edu/
Link to page with download https://soilhealth.cals.cornell.edu/training-manual
It allows loading portions of the manual or the whole manual at once. Much of available soil improvement methods likely would not fit our budgets or available equipment or access to manures, animals and such but many of the basics are within our reach and very doable.

I have read parts of the manual and found it good reading but have not used the newer tests nor the process of making a soil improvement plan yet.
