Sheds yet?

I pulled cards yesterday and most of the bucks seem to be holding. I'll probably give it another few weeks before I make another failed attempt at shed hunting.

Most bucks have dropped according to my trail cams.

Seabee

That is a good shed. Your area is ahead of ours. That is how it goes.

Thanks for sharing.

I still have several in Kansas with 1 side but only 1 lately with both sides.Dog found the rt side from the oldest buck I have been getting pics of.Shed on rt is this years, shed on left is last years. They changed but the left side stayed the same but I haven't looked yet.Dog found it while I was planting fruit trees saturdayshed 2017.jpg

Found about a dozen this past weekend, small to mid sized. However I also saw a lot of bucks carrying both sides

I'm hoping Piper after she is trained will help me significantly improve my chances at finding sheds. I've been on this farm for 7 years this February and have only found 3 sheds to date. All were small and of no significance.

If I found a shed from a buck of that caliber, well to say I would freak out would be an understatement

I finally got around to measuring these sheds that I found in Kansas, and the one on the left had 69 5/8" for a score, and the one on the right had 46 7/8" for a score. Just using an 18" guess on the spread that would be somewhere just shy of 160" for the larger buck. I hope I get a chance at him next year.

Today ... February 22nd was a pretty good day for me. I actually just went up to this food plot to retrieve a camera. As I was walking along the edge of the field I saw one of the spike sheds. When I reached over to pick it up, I saw the other side laying about 15-20 feet away. Looked around a little more and found the other 3.

These were all found in one of my 1/2 acre sugar beet plots. There is still some snow and ice on the south end of it so there may be more when that melts. There is still too much snow and ice in the other sugar beet plot and the corn but I expect to find some there as well. This tops my best other find when my wife and I found 4 sheds in a 1/2 acre Power Plant plot several years ago.

None of these are likely to make B&C this year but it is nice to know they have made it through most of the winter:

The older bucks we are getting on camera are still carrying both of their antlers.

From the amount of pedicle on that one looks like he has one of the brain abscesses or something. I think A LOT more buck deer die from that than we'll ever know.

Yes, I noted that too The LLC. Had to hurt! I had a lot of these young bucks on trail cameras doing a lot of sparring while they were loafing around in the sugar beets. It looks like that antler had a little help coming off. Hope he makes it OK.

Here is what we found over the weekend. We had a few other small sheds that I forgot to get pictures of as well.

Wow! Too bad to see so many that won't be growing any more antlers this year. EHD? Predators? Cripples from hunters? Any ideas Blizzard?

The young ten point I believe was hit by a neighbor. The bigger old heavy deer I am not sure about. I am guessing he was probably shot during a gun hunt. Some of the neighbors in that area do deer drives so I am guessing he ran up on us to die. He was laying in a brushy bedding area. The small one with just the head died a couple of years ago by the looks of him. So it was before I had that farm so I am unsure of the possibilities. All of the full racked finds were many miles apart at different farms.

nice dead, too bad on the dead heads.I have one 50 yard area that the last 2 years I have found a dead buck.I am guessing they are crossing the river and dying there.it's a good spot right by my stand

Always hate to dead. I guess it is a necessary evil since it happens year in and year out. Too bad everyone doesn't take good ethical shots. It is one of my pet peeves when I see someone take terrible shots at deer. I am a 20 yard and in guy and they have to be quartered away or broadside. Not that I couldn't screw up too but a bigger chance of error taking a 50 yard shot at a quartered to deer.
