These are probably about 3". The trees themselves are maybe 6-8' tall.It is the perfect time to identify hazelnut bushes. I just found one on my property line that is huge-probably 10-12 feet tall. Pinetag, how long are those catkins? The bushes I have here have short catkins, maybe an inch at best. I know there are some alders that have catkins this time of year also.

I picked one just to see what it looked like inside but it was still a very pale, yellowish green color. I think I'll give them another week or two.You picking any yet? I picked most of mine as the tip of the nut was just turning brown indicating to me that they were done growing, so I picked them to beat the squirrels to at least a few. They were a bit sticky for whatever reason.

I would actually like to participate in the seed/nut exchange and hazelnuts would be one of the few things I have that others might want. I planted a couple seedlings down along the edge of my creek plot also, so hopefully between all of them I'll be able to harvest quite a few in the coming years. You may make some friends if you have enough to make them available in the annual seed swap forum!
