Trapping hogs

Unless you have hogs, it can be difficult to comprehend what it is like. A couple years ago, I caught/killed 83 hogs off 62 acres in six months and couldnt tell any difference from when I started.

I appreciate the destruction they do, I hunt public land turks in FL and can't believe the mess they make. Wouldn't wish them on anyone, but fear I'll have them in MO soon enough.

Bill, you got it going on ! If you don’t mind, could you show some pics of your gate and some details on the trigger ? Always looking for a better way. No hurry, just next time you’re around your trap.:)

Camera is Snyper commander 4GLTE using SEM HERO prepaid cellular plan

Trigger is similar and activated via cell phone

Downside is camera continues snapping photos until turned off when emptying trap!!!!!

Arlo camera systems are real time and allow you to turn the camera off via remote

Is anyone trying to low-fence their properties to keep them out? I could see having to bury a fence a couple feet to keep them from digging, but short of that, what can a guy do?

I have seen where folks tried to fence crop fields with field fence and they tore through it. I have used standard cattle panels on hog traps and had them tear through that, breaking the welds. Picture below is of a boar hog warping a two inch steel tubular framed gate and escaping a commercial hog trap after being shot 5 times with a .22. They are tough.

Mark, I have a hogwire fence on about half of my property line. When a big boar gets ready to get on the other side he just goes through it. My fence is cheap because I put it up just to keep four wheelers and such out. I never dreamed the hogs would tear it up like that but they have.

On my hog trap I just use T posts and they have some give to them. When a hog hits the panels it springs away and soaks up some of the shock, but you best have the panels wired on well !

Well, I can’t catch another hog, but I put some dog proofs out yesterday, and this one took the bait. 89FC1946-2CC0-4B6B-9886-C9DAFCADE4EB.jpeg

Another one must have got just a toe caught, ‘cause he was on the camera, but he wasn’t there when I checked them this morning. :(7A5D6C15-1777-4ACC-A38D-817CFDD51AC0.jpeg
