Sasakwa 80

Got the last of the 5 acres brush hogged and junk picked up. Waiting for soil test results should get those any day. I found someone to haul and spread aglime for $40 a ton. Hope to get it applied end of next week and then till all five acres. Image00001.jpg Image00002.jpg Image00003.jpg Image00004.jpg Finally checked the well and I believe the pump is still hanging going to pull the pump to determine the horsepower and voltage. Picked up 200 pounds of buckwheat seed for the 5 acres.

Great looking property Stevie. Good mix of habitat, looking forward to seeing your progress.

Where did you get the buckwheat seed?

Metal has gone to $140 ton now...

Need to hall off more scrap iron, I will check prices next time, will not use the scrap yard in Seminole again. I got the seed from Goodson Seed in Holdenville for $28.50 per 50 pound bag. I was quoted from $35 to $48 per 50 pound bag at two other central Oklahoma seed sources.

Good info - thanks!

Got the soil test back today the East plot had a pH of 6.3 and they don't recommend any lime. The West plot had a pH of 5.6 and a buffer index of 7.5. They recommend 0.5 tons ECCE/A. I need to find out the ECCE percentage of the Ag Lime I found for $40 @ ton.

Nice property! I like that you have the option of doing some nice size plots with room to expand if you like.

$37 in scrap metal, nice to see a piece of property giving an owner a few bucks back. I found the farmers old scrap pile at my place the other day but I think it might yield me 37 cents. ;)

Well my lime guy was a no show and now does not want to do it. My only recourse is bulk pelletized lime at $210 a ton and I spread it with their spreader. I got 4 of the 5 acres tilled, plan on spraying with glyphosate in two weeks and then planting buckwheat two weeks after that.Image00003.jpg Image00004.jpg Image00005.jpg Image00006.jpg

I hate when someone says they will do something and then leave you hanging with a no show...a no show to me is they tell me they will be there so you make arrangements to meet them and then they don't show or call! Happens all too often in today's world...

We dug test holes here on Whitetail Hollow and it looks like deep ponds are not going to work due to the flint rock soil we have but our other 25 acre property has an excellent place for a really large pond with a good drainage to feed it so I think we are going to have a pond for our fish anyway...just have to drive 1/2 hour to fish it which is not ideal but is our only option...

I love the pond you have and those are some nice fish!

We need to take out some of the fish, which is no problem love to eat fish. The pond was the thing that sealed the deal for me on this piece of property.

What are you going to do after the buckwheat?
I will till the buck wheat into the ground for green manure. This fall the 5 acres will be broken up into, 5 one acre plots. One acre plot will become a wild life orchard of thirty trees to be planted spring 2018. Two of the plots will be perennial clover plots and the remaining two will be fall type plots of a mix of brassica, turnips, winter peas, oats and other plants.

Installed a gravity feeder, not sure where to position the critter guard. I am tired of feeding raccoons.
