Police Officers

I don't know if any of you are officers, but if you are, please be aware that the majority of this nation is firmly behind you. I get so tired of the tirades on social media and mainstream media constantly berating LEOs. Hang in there and keep fighting the good fight!

Defunding law and order is such a ludicrous idea, and even though I don't want to wish bad on anyone, the people who dreamed up that one should be moved to an experimental city as a real life instructional course on how this works in practice. History clearly shows what happens in a lawless society. Soon there is no society left, all government and authority collapse, until eventually things go full circle and a warlord takes over and imposes order and a government again.

I don’t think most of these people have figured that out yet. The Soviet Union and Venezuela are prime examples(Russia isn’t as bad as it used to be).

My youngest brother (38 years old) just completed his LEO training program and started a career in law enforcement. It has always been a dream of his. He struggled to maintain a healthy weight up until a couple of years ago and has back issues that he has worked to resolve to finally make it happen. We were happy to see him graduate the academy. I wish I had half the patience that it would take to deal with the morons on the streets these days. I doubt I could pass the mental evaluations to get offered the job, most of my answers would probably be " ...... well I would just shoot them!"

Huge support for the LEO and military! Always have and always will have respect for people who choose to live that life. I truly wish the mainstream media and politicians gave more credit where it's due, instead of using people who put their lives on the line daily as a scapegoat for their own self promotion.

Seems like most of my old high school buddies ended up in Law Enforcement. Some still are but most have retired in the last few years. Seems like a good time to retire. All that I've ever been in contact were able to remain totally professional while being surrounded by idiots. It's an incredibly stressful job. They have my respect and my support.

Military, Police, Firefighters, EMT's, Teachers, and the like all deserve far more praise and $$ than they get. Instead we (as a society) prefer to spend money on some body who plays a sport! And we wonder why our society has gone to $h!t!

I would politely argue that the best paid teachers in big cities like Chicago and Baltimore turn out the most poorly educated students. I don’t think paying teachers as a whole more will solve any problems, but holding individual teachers accountable for their results would, and making it possible to fire poor teachers would help even further. What other job in the entire world provides tenure after only four years of work?

My wife is a public high school teacher And anytime she complains about her modest salary I remind her that it’s not bad pay and great benefits for nine months of work per year.

I would add to the Chicago scenario as I lived there for 10 years. Most of those years there was a teachers union on strike. Who suffered? The kids. I also bought a boat from a metal shop teacher who was making 74,000/year. That was 35 years ago. I didn't have kids at the time and can't speak to the quality of education but corruption and ghost payrolls were commonplace at the time.

I agree to an extent; most of the good teachers have had their hands completely tied by the lack of discipline in the schools and parents who have forgotten how to instill respect for authority into their children. Not all parents mind you, but many. Not wanting to get the conversation off track though...

Totally agree. And just because people have those job titles doesn't mean they are not flawed or that there are not some bad apples out there. You weed out the bad apples.....you don't throw out the entire barrel!

That works in every profession, vocation, occupation, etc. To the original post, I figure there are about as many a-holes on the police force as there are in any other occupation and a swift firing would cure that for the most part. Trouble is, at least in the big cities, the unions prevent that to a large degree. I back police officers as a whole, they have a hard job, but the ones who aren’t acting in accordance with their oath need to be unemployed.

I'll be on the job 30 years in June, it's been a great ride. I've loved about every minute of it, it was definitely the job for me. I'll hang it up January 2024, at 55. That being said, I don't think I could start now and do another 30 years. I remember the "old timers" when I was starting, saying the same thing. "Back in the day" you looked at one of those guys wrong, and you learned a painful lesson. Today, I see guys second guessing a necessary use of force out of fear.

I work in the mid-west, here it's hard to go to lunch without someone picking up our bill, lately, or pump gas without someone coming up thanking us for what we do. The majority do back us, but it's the nut job politicians that are going to put chilling legislation in place.

My dad was a policeman from the late 60’s to the early 80’s. He has told me stories of what was allowed back then. I’m surprised people kept getting in trouble from the stories he’s told me. He also had 3 of his front teeth knocked out by a fella. The fella didn’t fair to well.

How far away are you or was he from McNairy county? That was Bufford Pusser territory back in that era.

My best friend retired from law enforcement this year cause of the craziness. My cousin is a state trooper and has taken a leave of absence after he was shot at. It's a crazy time for our LEOs. Hope they all stay safe.
