Planting mass trees

Restless is gonna soon turn to violent. Just watch. But yeah, I’m gonna go plant some chestnuts and cut some trees today.

Cool project. 400+ trees per acre seems like a lot, but guess they know what they are doing. Sounds like it will turn a low productive area into something very productive for wildlife.

Interesting theory about trees acting as sumps in the wet areas that are poorly drained

Looks like you had all the usuals covered( Nuttall, willow oak, water oak)

Overcup is another species recommended for these areas

Why did he want to plant gum trees? I didn’t understand that part.
He had two reasons . He is the professional so I went along with his advice though I'm not a fan of gums either.1) It's a trainer tree for everything else getting them to grow straight. 2) Future market value.

I have no defense

I don't have first hand knowledge of this, but I have read that sweetgum is selling for more than pine for pulp wood. I have heard of people also planting cottonwood to shade out oaks and then harvest the cottonwood for pulp wood about 15-20 years after planting to release the oaks.

You can't split gum so if they make paper out of it maybe you can't tear the paper. Nancy Pelosi would go on a tear and outlaw untearable paper of course.
