Little pet Kitten

Well, I finally found that picture of the collared pussy cat that I was looking for. If you look closely you can see both the collar and black antenna sticking off to the left side.

It was released 5 miles from me, but just like every other stray predator on the planet ended up here for me to feed.......

They also visit "The Brushpile", possibly to hunt rabbit cover. I saw two Bobcats and only one Coyote from the stand, even though there are lots of coyotes in the area.

Trapper has had a terrible week for trapping. Rain, rain, rain and everything like a swamp. But he caught a collared cat today and has managed to catch a few coons.

We believe this is the same one in my pic above from 2014.

Plot Twist: I gave him all the info on this cat that the F&W gave to me back in 2014. He thinks he was the one who caught it originally about 6 miles from here and gave it to F&W. Wouldn't that be unusual? Guy catches the cat and a few years later catches the same one again about 6 miles away from original location.

Note that the long black antenna has broken off at some point....

Cool pics Native. Is this one a male I'm assuming? We always had better luck with snares than leg hold traps with bobcats. Males can have a range up to 30+ sq miles. When trapping they tend to pass same spot every couple wks just as bear do. So it pays to keep traps along their path for several wks even when nothing seems to be getting caught. Feb is their main breeding months so travel distances tend to be longer, and I guess whyourt season ends this month here. A lot of people dont realize that rabbits are there main food source with deer being second. Not sure if that is scavanged or fresh kill but I do know they can take down a sheep easliy so deer should not be much a problem. Be cool if DNR would give you the tracking info on this one before his colar broke.

That’s good info dogghr and thanks for sharing. This one was a small female. If it is the same cat as back in 2014 they did share some good info. I would say she covered 16 square miles at that time.

Last week I had the big male on camera at the same place 3 times in 7 days so he must have his range narrowed down right now. Probably because of the good bunny hunting in the NWSGs at this time of year.

I had one that I was trying to hunt and was getting pics of pretty regular. I got a call one night that it was just hit by a car in front of the landowners home. He got it from the sheriff's officer(report for insurance claim) and called me. I skinned it out to be tanned. I had a picture of it laying on the ground and from nose to tail was a little over 31". I'm 5'8" and I'm standing next to it. I'll do so more digging and post a couple of pics of another cat.

Here are the pics I was looking for. The pics are in the order I found them on the camera. Look at the times. I thought it was neat that the cat was there twice the same day and I never knew it until I pulled my card.

I heard from my friend at F&W today.

  • The collared cat was caught in 2014 about 4-5 miles from me by the same guy I have trapping my place.
  • He gave it to F&W and they collared it and released it at the same place it was caught.
  • Sometime after that the cat moved its home range south (to my farm and adjoining farms).
  • Same trapper catches the same cat on my place a few days ago.
I think the odds of that happening would be slim. Just wanted to share with you guys.

PS: Her name was F27....
