Due to the layout of my property, I have a real issue with getting into and out of stands undetected. I'm forced to walk through crop fields to get to my woodlot. There is a low area finger that juts out from the duck pond field (Dpf) into the main field. I cleared a trail through it so I can walk quietly. This trail leads to to my new berm which hopefully will help solve the problem.

I didn't take the berm the last 10 yards or so due to not wanting to dig up tree roots. If you look closely you can see a fence I put up which will be brushed in. To the front (can't see in this pic) I planted Egyptian wheat and sorghum. I plan on doing something permanent there, probably miscanthus.

Just an excellent way to solve your problem with the berm and the fence at the end. You probably wiser than some of us by not digging up tree roots at the end.

To be honest, I did go through some roots on the other end and it bothered me......I didn't want to do it again.

This is the 1 acre plot that borders my woodlot and 50 acres of beans. Half is in brassicas which were planted July 13th, the other half will be planted around September 1st in winter rye, oats, and clover. Bordering the plot on the right side is a screen of Egyptian wheat and sorghum. The screen could use some weed control.

I really like this new forum and I love how a lot of the experts came over.
I planted a Wisconsin weeping willow in Pauls honor and it's taking off this year, although not as much as it could have because of the drought. I'll post a pic of it later.

Got some good pics this evening There were 4 of them, but one was camera shy. I was sitting up in a blind 250 yards away watching them.

I second that observation! Great picture Tom. More importantly though your property is doing its share with the local deer. Its surprising the deer look so good with these unusual extra dry conditions we are having.

Yep, that's the St. Lawrence. The overflow from my pond ends up there.

Part of the upper field brassica plot is being shaded out by weeds. I took my weed eater with the hedge trimmer attachment up there and hopefully took care of the problem rain is forecasted for Friday and Saturday so I plan on top dressing urea Friday...hopefully the brassicas will explode and out grow the weeds.The duck pond field brassicas don't have a weed issue, they have a pest issue.....you can see two different ones in this one pic.
