Cool pic

The first one I saw in IN in my area a few years ago, I almost wrecked my truck! I was driving down a country road and I saw it flying along and I saw that white head...."Bald Eagle"! I don't remember which of the kids I had with me, but they was like "What?" I threw the truck into reverse so I could watch and confirm. It's not easy to drive in reverse and look up in the sky! I almost put the rear of my truck into a pole!

I enjoy watching Bald Eagles, they often congregate below the Safe Harbor dam by the dozens to fish. But Ben Franklin wasn't impressed by them; "The Bald Eagle is too lazy to fish for himself; when the Osprey has taken a fish ... the eagle pursues him and takes it away from him. ... Besides he is a rank coward ..." frightened by a kingbird. But the Wild Turkey, Franklin wrote, is "a bird of courage [that] would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British guards, who should presume to invade his farmyard with a red coat on."

Ha, J-bird I almost did the same thing about four years ago when I saw the first one in my county. Pulled off the side of the state highway by my house like my head was on fire and my $%& was a catchin. Took a bunch of pictures and while I was doing it two other guys asked me to email them the pics. The novelty hasn't worn off yet :). This was taken on a fishing trip in WI.

Ben Franklin might’ve changed his mind if he saw this one Mennoniteman!

So did he catch more fish that you? I know some folks in some areas have issues with them. Wildlife is always "neat" until it goes to far. My father thought the otters where "neat" in his pond.....I think he has a little different tune now!

Nah, not even close. The eagle was feeding two chicks in a shoreline nest. If anything he was helping reduce the bluegill overpopulation.

A couple years ago I was deer hunting and had some hogs cross the food plot. I tried to time my shot to take two with one shot and squeezed the trigger. After I got back on the scope I only see one hog down. He started kicking and finally got up and ran (staggered) off into the woods. I sat there for a little but seeing it was near noon, I went to camp and made a sandwich. I came back about 2:00 pm and there were about 20 buzzards in the spot where the hog was. I figured out that there must have been a dead hog lying in the little depression I knew to be there. A little while later all the buzzards left in a hurry only to be replaced immediately by a pair:eek: of bald eagles, an adult and a juvenile. She (I assume) went to tearing into that hog but would not let the juvenile eat. Then, another eagle, (I assume the male) lit, and they both ate pig. Finally the first one flew off taking the juvenile with her, and the male stayed. Now, this took up a couple hours and I’m taking it all in through binos. The juvenile just sat like a stump during all this. Finally, six more pigs came back, the male looked at them, lifted up and dive bombed them. They scattered like quail and he flew away. I have to think he just did that for fun. :)
