    I must be honest.

I must be honest. This last weekend a family member took a very large buck. We skinned and boned out few other deer which were young and the big boy. I've been doing this for over 45 years. And I must confess that I never had any older large racked buck meat that I consider good enough to eat...

    Canola

I've never had any luck DE Rape. I could not find the thread where someone had good luck with canola. There is a big difference between DER and canola. Anyway I did a small test plot (July 1) in canola and GHR and it is being hammered. My deer are picky, but they love this. Thanks for the tip...

    Really tiny deer

I've been getting pics of a doe group where one of them is the size of a fawn. It has been with this group for 6 months. It never seems to grow. It eats the same as the rest. Any thoughts. I'll try not to delete any future pics.

    What is it?

This might be the wrong place to put this .What are the white things. It's a neck my sister cooked. I usually just trim what I can from the neck for sausage. It looks way too uniform to not be some natural part. It was from young healthy deer. This is a new one on me.

    Cow peas

I wondered some years back if deer ate the cow pea pods? The answer is ,yes the do. Every single one. Looks like it was mowed. I have a hill side in the back that I threw a handful of seeds 5 or more years ago. They have re-seeded them selves ever since because the deer don't get to them.

    Cow peas

Some years ago I asked do deer eat the cow pea seed pod? There was no specific experience either way. I plant cow peas alone and in mixes with soybeans as the give you a real early season meat hunt boost. In the purple flowering stage my hot wired plots are setting pods like crazy. A week...

    Deer cart/lift

Like many I'm old and worn out. And we all know the fun is over after you pull the trigger. I added something to my home made cart that makes picking up a deer almost childs play. It has even made gutting much easier on my back.

    AG LIME SPREADER

Over the years, I’ve spread a lot of ag lime off of a large trailer onto a small trailer so I could haul it to small hidey hole deer food plot and shovel broadcast it off by hand. A student of this process knows you wait for August at the end of a two month drought so you can get the lime dry as...

    daikon radish

For general info. This year we planted close to 40 acres of daikon radish in a soil improvement strategy. We planted a buffer strip around all fields of alfalfa and several clovers. If it proved to be a deer magnet ,all the better. I put a plot watcher on a 15 acre segment , which was a 20 year...

    Took down the hot wire

I've been doing a hidey hole set up behind my house around 20 years now. I've learned what works for me the hard way. The set up gets fine tuned ,enlarged ,every year. A hidey hole is never done. I took down the electric fence. It will take a while for them to find it. There's only about 10 deer...

I'm gonna have to declare war

I was looking forward to a great year with my 15 peach trees. The damm squirrels have cleaned me out again. The wife does not want me shooting them, so I started trapping them in January and letting the rich folks with homes on the golf course have the pleasure of their company. Caught a ton of...

    Buffalo gnats

I went up to the farm this weekend.Last weekend of turkey season. Although I've lost the fire to hunt turkey, my hunting buddy still loves the hunt,so he came along. I like to scratch the ground and put in some hidey hole plots. Right on schedule the buffalo gnats showed up. Having inhaled a few...

    Economical Electric Fence

I've got a hidey hole food plot behind my house in the suburbs. The area does not have a high number of deer. I've been doing this for longer than I care to think about. Since I retired I've had the chance to take it to the next level, and this year I became a victim of my own success. I had 3...

    photo bucket wants $$$$$$$

I've been using photo bucket for my 3rd Party Hosting for posting my pics in connection with postings on a number of boards. Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG...

    Flashlight recommendation

Last year I found myself in need of a flashlight suitable for blood trailing a deer. It would be useful to keep in in the truck also. I've been picking up the little cheap throw away led lights, but it seems that they are good enough to find your way to a stand ,but not good enough for much...
