That is a great point Bull. Sanctuaries are not areas to forget about. Stuff happens in them and if we don't check them out we will not know about it. I like to scour them during shed season and again once in the summer. Things like apple rust, apple crop or lack of, oak wilt and who knows what else can be evident in the mid to late summer. A full day checking it all out is only intrusive for 1/3 of 1 percent of the year--not worth worrying over.
 
I walk through my sanctuaries at least once a year in the early spring to pick up sheds. I also hinge cut them to turn them into the tangled mess I want them to be. I am guessing probably hinge cut around every 3 years.
