Working at the Farm - Took a few I-Phone Pics

I think KY gun season is currently under way... We are expecting funeral pictures any day now :)
Yes Sir, it is underway. I’ve had several opportunities at some good deer, but I can’t give up the hope that my Freak will return. A few years ago I kept holding out for my Booner and got him on the next to last day of the season. If Freak doesn’t return I will consider taking one of the other older bucks during our late ML season or possibly right at the end of gun. Good luck to you MM.

My target for 2026 survived gun season, but that is not a guarantee. Same thing last year with two others and neither was back this year. We shall see how this works out.

PS - Both of the old codgers in the post just above survived too, along with a pretty 10 point 3 year old. Life finds a way.

You've got an excellent stock to head into next year. I attribute your success in this area to your great food sources holding your deer on your own property. Your cover must also be pretty good, I see your pics of your native grasses, but just curious, do you also have significant wooded acreage that is thick?
Thanks MM. Yes, I do have excellent food and cover.

I own 2 places 4 miles apart. The native grass place is 100 acres, and about 60 of that is grasses, about 6 acres are orchards and plots. and the rest is woods. I have neighbors with crop fields on two sides. I keep the woods pretty thick via hinge cutting non-valuable trees, but I leave the oaks, etc... The farm becomes the best cover in the neighborhood in the fall, and this is where I have done all of the mast tree planting. There are neighbors with crop fields on two sides as well. I have a wall full of big bucks that came off of this place.

I'm just getting started well with my 20 acre place. It is mostly woods, and I keep those woods thick through hinge cutting. I do have crops here too. A relative who doesn't hunt borders me here, and that makes this farm hunt bigger than 20 acres. There is also another non-hunting neighbor on one side, and that helps too.

It seems that my 20 acre place is the best in early bow season. It can also be the best by gun season, but the 100 acre place will usually beat it by then. At both places I have passed a lot of 150 inch bucks, and have got some of them back the next year. However, last year I passed a 150 at both places and got neither of them back this time. I'm hoping to see at least one good one at both places back next year.
