Tree Watering Question

I received some tree watering instructions from Nature Hills Nursery in regards to our struggling Kousa Dogwoods. I was told when watering the trees to not allow the water to come into contact with the foliage, just the soil. Does anyone know the reason for this? I've never worried about water hitting leaves when watering trees in the past.

Yeah I’ve heard that, always thought it was just an “old wives tale” but who knows.

Are you planting the Asian dogwoods on hunting property or in your yard?

You better hope it never rains again, because the leaves will get wet if it does.........

But, just do what they say so that you don't void your guarantee......

Kousa gets fungal infections on it's leafs that frequent watering encourages. Anthracnose.

Fungal infections are also a concern in row crops, that is another advantage of planting no-till and having a straw base on top of the dirt, there's no soil splashing on the leaves. @MarkDarvin is well versed on this kind of stuff.
