The Massey

Going a new direction with the farm plotting, with the primary benefits going to the bees. I just ordered buckwheat yesterday that we will plant in two stages for blooms, also hoping the WI power plant offers at least a few blooms (I’m betting the deer keep that from happening), planting it in about a week, weather pending. This fall we intend to plant a 1/4 acre strip mix of chicory, hairy vetch, and medium red clover, along with the normal white clover, cereal blend going into established clover. While we’re waiting for the white clover to wake back up right now, the little bit of hairy vetch that is left from years ago is really helping the bees. I haven’t plant anything this time of year in a while, I stopped with the buckwheat several years ago, our deer don’t really like it, but the bees LOVE it.

Got the bee plots in this evening and Dawna lent a hand, which was very nice. .25 acre of sunflowers, and .75 acre of power plant. It’s been a while since I’ve planted BOB seed, but I’ve heard good things about this blend.
