Red Osier Dogwood

I planted 4 bareroot a few years back and tubed/mulched them for a couple years - then moved them to a cage for a year - this year they are on their own. Hopefully they will have some berries and start spreading on their own.

As a bonus, I noticed a nice stand growing in the ditch a few miles from our farm. I grabbed probably 40 live stake cuttings this spring and just stuck them in the ground in a swampy area - they will get no protection and hopefully a few of them will take off and become a self sustaining tree. Since the cost was $0, I won't feel as bad if they don't make it.
