Nanshui Pear??

My wife brought home some Nanshui pear from the grocery store last week. Wow, they were delicious!
Are any of you guys growing these? Will they work in zone 6? Where can I find some trees? And last question...Do they have issues like disease or ??

I've been researching Pears for 3 years now for our place in Zone 6b & haven't heard of that one. We used to have 2 large Pear trees on the farm when I was a kid that were the best pears I've ever tasted. I wish I had asked my uncle what kind those were!

Wish I could help, but I'm not familiar with this pear. However, if any pear could possibly taste better than an Ayers, I would be shocked!

Its an Asian pear...Korean grown maybe??
I'm just wondering if there are similar varieties but they just go by a different name.
I'm also wondering if Oriental varieties are all basically the same, or does each one differ from the other?
I have lots of pear trees, mostly stuff from Ed Fort and I like them (my deer love 'em!).
But I wouldnt mind adding something like a Nanshui to my mix.

The taste of the different Asian pears do vary somewhat from variety to variety, but most of the best know varieties are what I would call "similar." Korean Giant (aka Olympic) is a great tasting Asian Pear and highly disease resistant. It is also one of the largest pears you will ever find. If you could find some of those to taste test, that might be a good choice for you. They are readily available from many nurseries. Ripening time is sometime in October in my area - just a little earlier than Kieffer.
