FERTILIZER SPREADERS

There's times there's a need to quickly spread several hundred pounds of fertilizer on a small plot, and I was always stuck with having to get out the big tractor and mount the 3 point spreader.
I used my $500 Herd Seeder to spread fertilizer one tme and it wasn't practical so I decided to look for something better and today I purchased a new Agrifab pull-behind type spreader with 130 lb capacity to pull behind my ATV.
This thing was a bit of a pain to put together, but once I had it assembled it worked like a charm. I did have to shorten the handle as it hit the rack on my ATV. It's pretty much a 2 1/2 bag capacity spreader, and has a nice adjustable gate to control the flow. The spreading width varies greatly with speed adjustments, so it's important to keep a consistent speed, and the application rate is definitely not as consistent as an ag tractor unit, but with care it's reasonably even, good enough for a small food plot.
It was fixing to rain and I quickly spread 400 lbs of Triple 19 on an acre in 3 loads, and beat the rain too. It looks tippy but I had it on a pretty good sidehill without laying it over.
It's definitely an el cheapo gizmo, but seems to be well worth the $180 Amazon charged for it. 20250630_170909.jpg20250630_162910.jpg20250630_162850.jpg

I have one of those. If you have uneven ground or rocks they tip a lot. I restored and use this

They have their place, for sure. But, they do tip pretty easy.
That's what I thought too, I remember using a friend's years ago and laid it over, but I think this model is a bit wider, as I had it on a pretty good bank fertilizing my yard, way too steep of a grade to farm, and it didn't tip over.
