Autumn Rush and Dula’s Beauty

Well my brother and I decided to buy a few apple trees this year. We have no experience with apples at all. Not even ones grown for human consumption. The Wildlife Group posted a sale the other day and we called them. Out of the ones they had left they recommended Autumn Rush and Dula’s Beauty for us here in NE Texas. Does anyone have any experience with these varieties? They are going in the ground this weekend.

Dula's beauty is a seedling from a 'unnamed' limbertwig @greyphase, i've never heard of it before you mentioned it. http://bighorsecreekfarm.com/dula-beauty/

Autumn Rush is what some believe some random nurseries alternative name for Goldrush but its not known to be true.

I guess mark me down as not a fan of the 'wildlife group'. I know that is not relevant to the subject of this thread. I do not have experience with either of these varieties personally just wanted to share what information is out there about them.

I'm fairly certain autumn rush is goldrush. It should do ok a little susceptible to cedar apple rust. I'm growing Dulas beauty at the moment though just planted it last falll as a spring 2017 graft. I understand it is heat tolerant and fairly disease tolerant.

I think pears are my big thing for the wildlife group. They have a lot of unique disease resistant pears that grow well in hot climates with a lot of varies drop times.

If you get anymore look at century farms. They list a lot of apples that do well in hot humid climates in fact you can call them and they will set you up pretty well.

Did they send them bare root with leaves like that Matt? I can't imagine that's good though they do guarantee them I'm sure.

Another we've got that may do better for you is Anna. It's a low chill apple more suited for areas south of me.
Mine started blooming very early in spite of the cold, but Sunday mornings forcast low of 26, me thinks it and my pears are toast!

I'm yet to get my first apple from Autumn Rush and it's been in the ground for four years - starting the 5th year. Tree is growing good and shaped nice but not making apples as soon as some other varieties I have. I do believe this is just Goldrush.....

Yes that’s exactly how we received them. As a matter of fact that pic was taken a few hours after we opened the box they came in. We realized we weren’t going to have time to get them in the ground so we heeled them over in a raised bed. Hopefully we’ll get them in the ground tomorrow. I was surprised to see green leaves on them as well. I realize we are getting them real late for this year. As I said before, we have no knowledge of apples and just took the ladies word on what we needed when we called them to order.

Dont worry they throw the leaves in for free.... I have yet to hear about an order that came from the Wildlife Group that DIDNT have leaves already. I can only assume they dont have cold storage for their trees.
