Aphids

I noticed an apple tree I started from seed last year is covered in aphids. Mostly on the new growth. I read that if you dust the tree with diatomaceous earth it will kill the aphids.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Well the diatomaceous earth worked! Checked the tree out yesterday and just a bunch of brown carcasses left behind!
