Ph was 6.6,last year had soybeans in it. I frosted seeded alfalfa/clover last year it did really good this year was really warm in Ohio so I wasn't able to frost seed this yearI have a 4+ yo alfalfa/clover/chicory plot. My first question, and I assume you have already done your homework on that good soil, is what are your ph and soil tests? And what was the plot before this transition?? I won't bore you with my thots dependent on you answer. But quick hint, I would start that plot in the late summer dependent on your answers. My fav plot for dry weather I will say that, and is not all the drama many like to make alfalfa .
Meant to say I frost seeded in a different plot last yearPh was 6.6,last year had soybeans in it. I frosted seeded alfalfa/clover last year it did really good this year was really warm in Ohio so I wasn't able to frost seed this year
Based on my experience alfalfa frost seeds equally as well as clover. In a clean plot, such as bean stubble, I would get clover down ASAP. I've always told alfalfa doesn't frost seed well, but I've never tried.
Has anyone in Ohio started planting alfalfa/clover yet. Like to get seed in the ground but afraid it's still to early for a late frost
YES they will, so will turkeys. My cousin had a woods plot planted where he tried throw and mow rye and radish. Came back 3 days later and plot was scratched clean from turkeys.
I over seeded a little bit for all the birds and turkeysI frost seeded some a couple weeks back bub. I'm not sure how it took yet but hoping I'll notice this spring.
Side question. Will geese eat seed?
