I had plots all ready to plant chufa to help population of turkeys. On the way to the fields saturday I had to stop and let this group cross the road! Maybe they will make a comeback

I was able to get seed and fertilizer in the ground ahead of hopefully some memorial weekend rains

I planted Chufa years ago on the first farm biggest deal I had was keeping the turkeys out so it would grow, they basically wipe it out before it could grow.

I just planted some for the first time about 2 hours west of you last weekend. We have had good hatches two years in a row and numbers for the rest of the state (outside of patches in the north) seem to be stable or growing, so that's good news.

Did you use a pre-emergent, plan on spraying as you go, or just going to see how it goes?

Where are you located? I did not use pre emergent. What will work for spraying?

Our land is in Sumter Co. No worries re: not applying a pre emergent. They don't love competition, but are often good to go for the first year or two in a new spot. After that, weeds become much more problematic. If you do get a lot of competition, clethodim will take care of the grass and 2,4 db is used for broadleaf control.

They should have a great head start with the amount of rain we have been getting over the last 3 weeks or so!

Looks great. I put 3 plots in this weekend as well and am anxiously watching the rain. Trifluralin (Treflan) is the pre-emergent I have used in the past with good results. It has to be incorporated immediately but it works pretty well.

Thats exciting. Nothing more fulfilling for me than the wildlife showing that youre doing something right.

Still getting some timely rains and the chufa might just make it!!

And I have a "control patch" in my garden so I can know what the fields should look like.
