Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

George, I am glad things are working out so well for you here in KY! It is surely a good omen that you already have a picture of the elusive piebald deer. We have a rich tradition that any harvested piebald gets a full body mount.:D

    Is there a negative stigma

Circled in green: Sawtooth Oak Circled in white: Doe eating acorns from Sawtooth Oak...(I promise). Believe it or not, seeing this doe munching on acorns was a proud moment for me. It was the first time that I actually witnessed a deer eating acorns from a tree that I had planted.

    Is there a negative stigma

The deer on our place like to bed in thickets of red cedar that are of Eastern origin. This time of year, they like to browse on honeysuckle vines that come from Japan. In the Fall, they like to gorge on our acorns that came from...Sawtooth, wherever that is. All 3 of these seem to have a...

I forgot Jim Ward. I like his stuff so much that it didn’t feel right to just edit his name into the names I posted above.

    Forest to Fork Movement.......

On my state’s hunting forum, I sometimes see the opinion that QDM and antlers are ruining the sport. Many residents have been priced out of the market by non-residents with more disposable income to spend on leasing hunting land.

Bedding Cover - Possible to be too thick?

We logged our land a few years ago, and I saw the same thing. I was amazed at how often there were deer tracks in the “skid trails” that were created as the logs were being dragged out. As far as being too thick-here's something I noticed. Two years after logging, our woods were basically...

    Deer Burger Recipes

We run pork rinds through our food processor and use the resulting powder like a seasoning. Golden Flake Sweet Heat is our favorite. I’ve known people who do the same thing with Doritos.

    Deer Regulations in your Area.

Ky has a 1-buck limit statewide. As far as doe harvest, our counties are classified as Zone 1 through Zone 4. Zone 1 means a county is estimated to have >30 deer per square mile and/or a certain number of deer/car wrecks or farmer complaints. In Zone 1 counties, you can take an unlimited...
