    Lawn mower opinions?

Skag Cheetah here...35 hp Kohler. Heck of a mower. In addition to mowing grass, I use it for what might be considered light-duty brush hogging. It's hard to beat a zero-turn for mowing grass.

What type of structure did you put on your hunting land?

You specifically asked about off the grid builds, so I'll add a little more about mine: 1. Like I said earlier, I've got grid power available at my site, but based the costs I've seen in our area for similar locations, I'd probably be looking at $6-10K for hookup. On top of that, I'd have the...

What type of structure did you put on your hunting land?

So...my $.02 worth. I built a 30x50 barn on my property. I built traditional stick-built, 2x6 walls on a monolithic slab. That slab includes about a 30” deep foundation on the perimeter. I’m on all sand, and even though in Michigan, I’m on my third winter and no indication of settling. No...

    Plans for 2018?

Oops...forgot the orchard. Cleared about an acre of desiresble ground last year for a future orchard. I’ve still got some soil prep and learning to do before planting. Probably a fall planting. Any advice in this area would be appreciated.

    Plans for 2018?

    1. Expand my road/trail network. All the easy areas are completed. Virtually all that is left are wet/dense areas that will require corduroy or pull up construction. I have lots of dead ash, so wood won’t be a problem. Also have a dump trailer for my tractor and lots of easily accessible...

    Love my Mucks...

I’ve got three pair, but not the ankle high style. Need those for my property in the summer. I can always find water to walk in somewhere, but the knee highs get hot in the summer.

    End of season survey

Nice. I was going to say if I did that on my property it would make for a great coon survey.

    End of season survey

I take it there is no limit on baiting in SC? We would be locked up in Michigan for that. Sept 15-Dec 31 only. No more than two gallons spread over a 10ft x 10ft area at any given time. That’s why we have to survey during the last two weeks of legal hunting.

    End of season survey

Good group of pics! I like surveys. Here in Michigan, I try to do them the last two weeks in December. Baiting is banned here after December 31, so we like to get it done before then for best pics. Two years ago we got a good cross-section of results that provided some good data. Last year...

    Indian Marker Trees

I’ve got a tree that fits the description of the OP at a remote section of my property. Always intrigued me. I’ll have to take a picture next time I’m in the area and post it. I would be interested in opinions from those more knowledgeable than I.

    skidsteer advice wanted

I bought a Bobcat E42 mini-ex early last summer, and wonder how I got along without it. They are pricey and certainly not everyone can swing one financially, but the work you can do with them is amazing...and I’m still a novice with the thing. Even if you have to rent one occasionally...

    Ash trees falling

Of my 380 acres, I have over 100 acres of ash...mostly dead...all dying. It’s sad. It’s a mess. I cut those in areas where they will cause damage, but it’s virtually impossible to cover all the bases. Lost a older box blind a couple weeks ago to a dead ash and a NE wind. I’m in a qualified...

    Game cameras that last??

At any given time, I run up to about 24 cameras. Currently I have 4 Bushnell wireless, the oldest will be 3 in February. The newest is a few months old and is Bushnell's 2nd generation model. They've been pretty good cameras, fairly reliable, easy on batteries. I like Bushnell's subscription...

    Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Wireless

I'm running three of them...oldest will be 3 next February. I've also got one of the newer generation...so 4 total. The good news is that they all still work, relatively well. I use primarily for security locations, although I get a lot of deer on them. The thumbnails of the 1st generation cams...
