Went out yesterday and put a layer of stain on the stairs to the 'grain truck' blind. This blind is in a pasture that does have cows in from May until October so any kind of stand would have needed to be cow-proof - dang things like to rub on anything. Plus it's kind of cool to have grandpa's...

Yep - have a couple thermocells. Water hole is in an area I try to stay out of so no camera - I just needed to check on a couple trees and do a little spraying. Won’t go down there again until there’s a deer down. No antelope in this part of ND - need to be further west.

Went out to set up cameras and feeders yesterday and grabbed a couple photos of the water tank I buried 4-5 years ago. I have some corrugated metal slices with a couple cinder blocks going up a slight hill to funnel water into the tank when we get the occasional thunderstorm, else I think most...

Been getting a lot of rain - grass is up to my waist - plenty of skeeters. Facing west. Facing east. Possible future elevated tower blind site. 1 oak tree looks like will have a few acorns again - rest still look to be years away.

Not a habitat picture, but drove under a funnel cloud on Saturday - didn't even see it until almost right underneath it. Another non-habitat photo - view from the dock at the lake cabin. I guess it must not always be windy in North Dakota - a few thunderheads off in the distance and full moon...

Trophy Rock mineral site - getting some use, but doesn't seem to be overly active - second year of minerals in this spot. Mineral sight on the west property has a lot of use and a pretty good depression dug into the ground where the deer have been using. I think it maybe takes a few years for...

    Red Osier Dogwood questions

Pic of one of the few RDO cuttings I have gotten to take. I am by no means an expert so someone will probably correct me immediately, but I think most people collect cuttings and plant them in the spring before they break bud - I would think it would be a little too late this year, but could...

Here is a pic of the 2019 planting - Russian olives, plums, and hedge roses were this years plantings. Has been planted and tubed - hopefully out this weekend to water, spray and mulch. Then start adding the cages so I can take the tubes off come this fall. I also added a rubbing post to...

Plum planted in 2018. Elderberry planted in 2018. More trial and error on shrub plantings. First couple years, I'd plant and tube and leave. Come the next spring many of the plants would have to start re-growing completely from the roots. I think the tubes kept the tree too snug and they...

A few pic's of some apple trees. This is the tree from above which had a few apples last year - looks like has flowers again this year. As you can see by the tilt of the tree - it was windy the day I took the pic's (it's always windy in ND). Another tree leaning with the wind. Apple trees...

Old spring fed dugout "Ducks on the pond" - they don't call it the Prairie Pothole / Duck Factory for nothing. Several of these small seasonal wetlands on property - most will be completely dry by August. You can make out a couple puddle ducks out enjoying the day - didn't seem to be too...

I don't think red willows will grow this far north? Map says I'm zone 4, but right on the border, so I usually only plant trees that are zone 3 adaptable. I have been planting red dogwood osier - which I assume is similar and the deer have been loving that so far. As far as why ND isn't...

Thanks - property is in central ND - northeast of Bismarck. Quite the variance from Fargo’s flat as a pancake to western ND badlands you experienced. I do love hunting mule deer in badlands but tags are too tough to draw and missing a season on property would be tough also.

I only have a couple of habitat pictures on my phone at the moment - I'll have to take more next time I visit. The property is about 75 miles away so I get out as often as I can, but not as often as I'd like. Last year was the first time the largest oak tree I planted had a couple acorns...
