    Nocturnal Deer

I second scouting on a windy, wet, otherwise crappy day. If you’re scouting with a crosswind, you can sneak much closer than normal, and hopefully run into one of them. Ok, now you know one of his bedding spots, down to the exact bed. Learn everything you can, what conditions is he bedding there...

    Hang on tree stands

I remember when I was a teenager, my brother and I built some 12’ ladder stands out of treated 2x4s. We hauled that out to the woods and then put a couple of screws up above it, and hung our stand. I also had a steel gorilla stand and some screw in steps and tried the mobile hunting thing...

    Pennsylvania hunting in Early October

Hunting wherever the acorns are located, next to the thick bedding cover. Blind or not, your call. I prefer 5 sticks high in a big tree for cover, which is my plan for Sunday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Concorida Oak Growth Rate

The burr oaks I’ve gotten from MDC have outpaced the Concordias. I’d rate the Concordias as “average” to above average growth for an oak. The other ones I planted don’t all look as good as the one pictured above. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Concorida Oak Growth Rate

This is a concordia planted in 2017 as a seedling from MDC. I’d agree that they have done poorly in pots. I’d like to direct plant a few acorns to see what happens. It is going to have a dozen or so acorns for the first time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Is this the same deer?

100%. Is he going to make the target buck list this year? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Blue Seal Regular Oats?

If they are cheap, give them a try. I always mix with wheat and rye for variety, leaning heavier towards rye. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Best time to cut

I think the best time to cut is outside of hunting season. Our time can be so limited, it’s basically whenever I can get the time and energy to do the project is a good time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Speed up the "thickening"

Disclaimer: I don’t like maples. I prefer to cut maples off as opposed to hinging them. I don’t want the top to stay alive and shade anything else out. I’d rather something different grow in its place. They will still likely stump sprout creating good browse, but will open the area to more...

    Another Age This Buck

4+ would be my guess. Shooter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    I must be honest.

Wet aging it in the fridge for a week or two before you cook it up helps a lot. You’ll never eat a beef steak that hasn’t been aged, so treat your venison the same. The fawns and younger does don’t need to be aged, the older deer do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fired the Tube and Hired the Cage

I’ve planted both hazelnuts and silkies in cages and they have done very well. I only have good pictures of hazelnut, but I’ve circled all the nuts this shrub is making in year 4. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
