Mullein is a biennial, so it only has a two year growth cycle. First year it grows leaves, second year the flower and seed stalk. As long as you keep mowing it down before it can set seed you should be able to gently get rid of it. It might take a couple of years of doing that but it will go...

If it is done well then I would assume it wouldn't affect it too much. John W Hershey grafted many persimmons over a century ago and they are large trees that still bear copious amounts of fruit.

These were grown in air-prune beds outside in Rhode Island, so definitely a shorter season compared to indoor starts. I grow them pretty tight to get a lot of trees so they usually grow pretty tall and skinny the first year but they are certainly sturdy. I fall plant half, and spring plant half...
