Yes, that is a cottonwood. We have a huge one on our property near Evart. We had a forester look at it when we did some logging years back. He said it was a 70 year old tree despite the 14 foot circumference. Apparently they're a very fast growing tree. -Cody

Thanks for the advice Wayne. Those sound like good ideas to try. I uploaded a few photos from last year. I found 8 in Michigan (Nothing with much size) and I found a bunch out west in the mountains of Wyoming when I went to a geology mapping field camp as my last requirement to graduate.
