Thanks!
My objectives for the summer months are to only build soil health. The soil is pretty heavy clay and has been in food plots (3 acres) for 3 years now. It has a pretty good stand of white clover and I over seed with winter rye which does pretty well. I can't get a drill into because of...
That's a beautiful stand of buckwheat! The deer hammered my buckwheat. There isn't much left already. Any suggestions for a cover that the deer won't over browse with a goal of trying to improve soil OM. I have sorghum on part that does well, but seems to grow best where it gets partial shade.
I finished mowing Sunday and it was calling for rain Sunday night/Monday but then 10 days of dry, 90's so I held up. How many days of a soaking rain should I shoot for having the seed sitting there is killing me.

outdoorstorm. I posted my thoughts on starting up a food plot after having a forestry mulcher work it over on the "building organic matter" thread. I would be very interested in hearing about your results.
when i started a couple of years ago i couldn't find a good post that covered my particular situation:
The following is what I have distilled, in good measured from your replies yoderjac. Thanks for the suggestions!
New Food Plot created with a Forestry Mulcher
The goal is to get wildlife...
Good points. Nitrogen is not analyzed in soil analysis. It is either consumed or augmented (legumes) by plants. I gave my clover plot a shot of 6-24-24 by broadcast. The buckwheat immediately adjacent is more than 1 foot taller. So I think from the soil analysis get the P-K up to the indicated...
I agree with the above. I tried to use "advanced" mixes. Now I'm headed to just WR as a fall cover crop for white clover and BW as a spring cover crop with just mowing end of May, and mid-August. I think it will take several years until I can reasonably try something like brassicas. You need...
i just did my first bark graft two weeks ago and don't have any buds yet. how long does it typically take and by what point will it be assumed to be a failure
Thanks. The travel time was in addition to the cost per acre and I provided the seed. The drill time was about 3 hours. What is the name of the thread for the throw and mow process?
I didn't establish the price for drilling my two acres of food plots. I was sent an invoice for $650/Acre. This seems high for SE Ohio (Meig's county, OH). I paid since I didn't agree on a rate but I this is why I will convert to clover plot next year. What would you consider a standard rate?
