Well, the heat finally got to them.... The boy has been beating the snot of it of this 2000-ish Corolla we have and having a ball and this weekend he and his buddies.....well...they took it for it's maiden flight! Ramp is 2 feet tall. My boy was driving...says they hit it at about 60.....I'm guessing they got 5 feet of air and I paced of 28 yards from the launch end of the ramp to the point of impact. The car drove away....no leaks, nothing busted.... Every time I see it I just laugh.....

 
Dang J, I've been following this story and I thot I'd done some crazy chit but this boy got balls of steel. That was so cool. What did momma say???
 
My friend in high school had an 81 or 82 Toyota Corolla hatchback that we simply called the Yota. We did some stupid stuff to that car in the late 1980s, but nothing ever quite like that. That was pretty impressive.
 
I just love that Dad stands by, supports and records such craziness as that. Not many would allow it much less support it. Good for you. They'll remember that for the rest of their lives.
 
I figure they was gonna do it anyway...regardless if I supported it or not. So I helped them with the design of the ramp to ensure at least it should be safe. I wasn't wild about a lack of helmets. They are all old enough to make their own dumb choices.... Mom wasn't thrilled...but again at least on our place we knew we could be standing by should something go very wrong.

I'm trying to get my hands on the other video (shows the air they got better) and another one from inside the car..... They all admit that this was probably the dumbest and yet coolest thing they have ever done. I think it scared them to some extent as nobody has uttered a word about trying it again!
 
That looks like it hurt...did they have belts on? Glad it landed fairly level because I could see that doing an endo pretty easily...

Seat belts yes.....common sense....no. I tried to explain that you wanted as little weight up front as possible as it was going to be front heavy any way. I'm just an Engineer...what do I know! I also told him to try it at say 45.....to see how things went.....nope 60! I was going to work up to something more dramatic....he went for it. I was worried about end-over-end as well...especially once I saw how high they got. I got a ramp and a corolla....if anybody is bored!
 
That was pretty crazy.

Back in high school one of my friends had a late 80’s Corolla that we would load up with 4 guys and 4 girls and jump a bridge on a long stretch of road where we got it up to about 60. It felt about like your boys jump but we probably only got about 6” of air is all I bet. Felt like a ton more with 8 people in the car though.
 
Wow ! :eek::eek::eek: I know LOL is overused in texts and on forums but I literally did. My wife wonders what I’m watching !:D

I did that in a ‘79 Bronco many, many years ago, we flew 65’ from launch until the first marks at the landing. Didn’t do it on purpose though ! My 12 year old boy was in there with me and he remembers it like yesterday, as do I. I simply went to sleep and ran off the road, jumped a driveway at about 55/60 mph, but the Bronco didn’t fare as well. I had to put a new front end under it:(

Very strange thing, I had a Winchester 30-30 in a gun rack on the left rear window, it shattered that window and the rifle was leaned up against the rear passenger side seat when we stopped just as if I had placed it there. I had a transit level in the rear and it went out that same window and was found about a hundred feet down the road. It was totalled !o_O
 
Sorry fella's.....no Duke's...and no Daisy.... If I had a Daisy....I'd show it off! Just some red-neck boys with too much time on their hands...
 
That was crazy but I remember reading about the Dukes cars that were built for their shows and they talked about getting spine damage from landing.I'm glad I had girls also,the can shoot just fine but don't want scars or broken bones ,except from softball.
