Last fall I dug a trench and lined it with weed cloth. I mix the native soil with some compost and filled the trench up and planted 24 Bur Oak acorns. After they were up 6-8 inches tall I transferred them into some power aid bottles with Kellogg Potting Mix. I ended up with 15 out of 24 acorns. They all look really good, much better than the Post Oak and Blackjacks I've been potting. My thinking was it would make it easier to get more of the roots if they didnt get deeper than the fabric. I think it worked out pretty well. I used gutter guards that I got at a garage sale last fall to form a dome over them all winter to keep the squirrels out of them, that worked out pretty well, I'm going to keep an eye out for some more this summer.
