    Throw and mow spraying question

I’ve got a plot planted last fall in the LC Cereal mix. This year, the plot is mostly mature rye, and a mix of the medium red and jumbo ladino clovers I planted last fall as part of the mix. The issue is there’s a good amount of ragweed and some black medic growing throughout the plot. I want...

    Food Plot Equipment

If you were building up your equipment from scratch, what would you buy to maintain a couple food plots ~1 acre in size? We have access to a small garden tractor (27hp) and a Polaris Ranger UTV. Would you buy a small disk and pull with the tractor? Would you buy UTV implements and use the UTV...

To Late for Throw and Mow in Western NY??

I think you're unlikely to get much benefit this year, or this winter. The benefit would be having the rye ready to take off first thing in the spring which would be preferential to whatever weeds pop up.

Has anyone purchased seed from Seed World or Seed Ranch?

I've bought from Seed Ranch multiple times without any problems.

Weed ID in Clover (LC Rye Mix)

Planted the LC rye mix last year in a small plot of mine. Long story short, we planted on the early side and got a ton of rain. Got away with it in a plot with heavier use. However, in this plot, we had a spot where the oats got too tall, headed out, and the excess straw/debris createded a bald...

    White Clover and Rye Plot

Quick question, I've got a small 1/5 of an acre plot that was mostly Rye and White Clover last fall. It's coming along pretty well this year. I'm going to let it go into the fall since it's small, looks good, and is an area we don't hunt much. Would you leave it alone completely? Maybe just add...

    Too late for clover?

I can't directly answer your question but for such a short term cover crop before fall I think buckwheat would be an obvious choice. I don't see how clover will feed a ton of deer in 8 weeks.

    Preventing Excessive Volunteer Rye

Yeah im planning to plant more of it so not a huge deal just something that occurred to me looking over the plot today. I'll probably mow the plot a couple weeks before tilling and planting fall plot. I'll use a lighter Rye seeding rate and I can overseed if necessary.

    Preventing Excessive Volunteer Rye

Hi all, I planted two small plots in the LC Rye mix last fall (with great success). This spring, everything going as planned as the Rye is starting to form a seed head and the clover is exploding. The Rye is reasonably thick but by no means choking out the clover. Here's my question: I plan to...

    Rates on new mix

I wouldn't divide the rates. Last fall I planted (small plots) at the heavy side of the LC mix and got great results.

    Delta Forage Peas

Looks like Delta aren't too different than the 4010. I ended up getting a bag of each and I'll see if there's any difference.

    Delta Forage Peas

Local coop doesn't have 4010 field peas, they either have AWP or Delta forage peas. Similar price difference. For a fall food plot, any reason I shouldn't get the forage peas?

    Lablab

I planted it in a mix last year with buckwheat, cowpeas and sunflowers. Was a heavily used summer plot before a fall planting. I believe I used 15 lbs/acre Buckwheat, 30 lbs IC cowpeas, 15 lbs lablab, 5 lbs sunflowers. We didn't have anything resembling drought conditions however. The lablab...

    Frost seeding rate

Can you frost seed too early? I'm gonna be at our land next weekend (March 4-5 in western WI). Would be nice to spread the white clover seed and then forget about having to get back for sure by late March if I decide to do it then. I'm leaning towards just doing it as long as it's not for sure...

    Frost seeding rate

I mixed red and white clover at the LC mix rate. So, I'm basically supplementing if this spring. May not even be necessary, but for a few dollars of clover seed it seems worth doing.

    Frost seeding rate

Ive got a couple small food plots that were planted in the LC Rye mix last fall. Was a Great success in the fall, so I'm expecting it to rebound well in the spring. That said, for the clover portion, I mixed medium red and ladino. What would you overseed this spring and how much? My plan for...

    Planting LC Rye Mix early?

Well, it got 2.3" of rain last night and the forecast is 1-2" of rain tonight. It was pretty dry there (only 0.3" in the week before) and the soil drains well. I'm assuming this may wash a little, but should be a good thing? Soil is sandy loam and drains pretty well. They both have a slight...

Spring and Summer ONLY Food Plot Suggestions Please

I planted a mix of 15lbs buckwheat, 30 lbs cowpeas and 5 lbs sunflowers per acre. All should be killed by frost and it grew great. Just mowed and tilled it in to plant LC rye mix.

    Planting LC Rye Mix early?

Update: we planted it Sunday 8/7. Soil reasonably moist under the first 1 of pretty dry sandier topsoil. Mowed buckwheat and lightly tilled into top 2" on Saturday. Broadcast oats, peas, rye into tilled soil, lightly dragged, packed with tractor tires. THen broadcast clover and radish and packed...
