    Let's see your bird dog....

Thanks guys. As you can tell I probably put a little too much time and emotional investment into my dogs.

    Distance comfort zone

Jeff, do some extent I do. You get more than about 30-35 yards away from a well maintained modern bow and the noise it makes on release is negligible. However, my theory has always been that deer duck on the noise of the arrow itself as much as they do the bow. I don't know if you've ever...

    What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

I've looked at the smaller blade, but it's only made in a 100g version so I'd have to drop 25g of brass or something up front if I decided to go that route. I think I'm just going to stick with my current set up right now. It's just 2+ weeks until the hunt. Too late for me to comfortably...

How much time do you have available to deer hunt this fall?

I usually spend about 40 days in a tree, some days just a morning or an evening, some days both. Then another 30-40 days chasing birds if I'm lucky. There is seriously no better time of year than September through January.

    What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

Thank you sir. I definitely want an exit hole as well but I'm just uneasy moving to fixed blades just for a 2 week hunt and then back to expandables again. I like repeatable and consistent and hate tweaking my set-up. Don't mess with what's working, you know? Good luck to everyone getting...

    Lock/hang on stand preference

How much are you able/willing to spend? How far will you have to carry the stand? Are you taking it up/down constantly? Or does it go up for the season and stay there? And how long do you usually sit on an average sit before climbing down? I'm primarily a public land hunter, so my hang-on...

    Distance comfort zone

Beating a dead horse at this point, but it's all about the animal (tense/relaxed/angry), the weather (cold, stiff muscles? Windy?), etc. I have a 120 yard range in my backyard and practice a lot, so feel very confident in my kill-zone groups to 85. That said, the longest shot I've ever taken...

    What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

I'm shooting a Hoyt Nitrum34 LD with a 31" draw at 70 pounds. I'm shooting Easton Axis 300 arrows (slightly overspined) at 30.75".

    What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

So, quick question for you because I've been giving this some thought as well in regards to elk. When you say you're shooting 390g arrows, do you mean full set-up, including your broadhead? This will be my first season to chase elk and I'm planning on shooting my hypodermics because I trust...

    What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

I shoot 125g heads, so I'm a little more limited in my options. That said I've really enjoyed the performance from my Rage 2 blade hypodermics so far. My back up blades are NAP Spitfire, and Muzzy MX-3. I almost always keep a muzzy in my quiver for coyotes, etc. (just because of price point)...

    Let's see your bird dog....

...and the baby of our group, Puppy Charlie, although not quite a puppy any more at 18 months. Our first purebred in a house full of mutts, we've managed to break his royal upbringing and drag him down into the gutter and humble him somewhat. On his maiden voyage to his new home we already...

    Let's see your bird dog....

Fred, my little girl dog, is in her prime, turning 4 just a week ago. She's a machine with no quit in her. 42 pounds of fireball going under/over/through fences, into hedgerows with reckless abandon and will chase down a cripple if she has to run to the next state to do so. She'll leave the...

    Let's see your bird dog....

My bird "dog"?? As in just one?? Surely you can't be serious!!?? My Old Man, TheDuck is turning 11 in October. In the last 4 years we've been through a busted knee and TPLO surgery, then quite the cancer scare/chemo this past year. His more active days are behind him but he and I have had a...
