Thanks Jack, that’s the destination I’m traveling toward.

Here are the two plots planted the conventional way. Probabl took me three times as long to plant these two small plots than it did to plant the one that I crimped. It’s about .65 acres and these two would stretch to be a quarter acre each.

We checked on our plots at the lease this morning and I was pleasantly surprised ! To tell the truth, I really didn’t know what to expect. I got a pretty good termination on the rye and turnips, although I do have some rye coming up from the original stalks. Summer heat will take care of that...

    Not yet, but one day.

I took her to the lease this morning when my buddy and I went to look at our plots. He had a trace mineral block close to his plot and I let her out to pee (on a leash😬) and let her sniff her way to the block. She stayed around that block sniffing in those deer and hog smells for about five...

    Not yet, but one day.

As most are aware, my beloved JRT Sarge had to be euthanized last fall. I was dogless until about Christmas, had said I wasn’t getting another, but I couldn’t stand it. I got Molly from a guy on Texas Bowhunter who has a great reputation for breeding JRTs. She’s been a hard headed little cuss...

    Shooting Bench

My bench that I hand made with three hundred dollar bills !😜 After looking at it I decided I could not save much money if I built one myself, and probably wouldn’t do as good a job. I did unload it with my forks and set it on the blocks though. 😬

    Drought and Survival

We have had record flooding in what we call “Deep East Texas” which is S of Lufkin to Houston. Record water release from Lake Livingston, the Trinity River as well as the Neches River have flooded US 59 below Livingston. It is clear now, but yesterday morning it was closed. This is a major...

    Drought and Survival

Raining like a cow whizzing on a flat rock here, right now ! We are the blue pin. I don’t mind the rain, although at this point it will all run off. What I do mind is these little red boxes that indicate tornado warnings !

    Drought and Survival

People don’t expect weathermen to be right, at least I don’t. What good is a seven day forecast if they change it the second day ? We were supposed to get rain today but it all went N of us, but it took the tornado activity with it so I didn’t mind much. I planted three plots yesterday and the...

I have been planting food plots yesterday and today with the help of my best friend and hunting partner. We planted two on our lease and one at my place. This was done the conventional way, spray, wait, disc, plant and fertilize, and drag. I hope to transition to the plant, fertilize, and crimp...

    Drought and Survival

Good for you ! We got a good rain last night too, but I haven’t checked the gauge yet. I’m a little under the weather with a head cold, sinus infection, or both.

I sound just like a real Turkey

I’ll bet he was glad he was wearing his brown pants !😝 I never came that close but I did have a bobcat get within twenty feet of me once when calling coyotes. They are sneaky ! I didn’t get that one, but thank God for the happy accident that let me be born in a state where we don’t have to...

    New hunter

I do both. I usually have a feeder at the end or side of my food plots. There is no doubt that the food plot is the biggest draw because I only throw 5/6 seconds both morning and evening. I pen my feeders with 8 hog panels where the hogs don’t homestead. They still come around, and I still shoot...
