10 rattles on this one. If you ever see a venomous snake close up, never any issue confusing them with a “regular” snake.
We were walking around the property line & this one came slithering in front of us.
In 5yrs of hunting the property that was the 1st venomous one we’ve seen so far. Did notice a big copperhead ran over out on the highway by the gate last weekend. Being that we are 30-45 mins from any hospital or urgent care, we don’t take any chances with them in the woods.
Timber rattlers are protected here in E Texas. Personally, I can't see the need for poisonous snakes, there are enough non-poisonous to eat the rats, mice, etc.

I thot showing snakes on this forum was reason enough to be banned. Rattlers are considered to be endangered here but not protected. The DNR actually wants report of any sightings of Timber rattlers to determine their current range populations. I try to tolerate, but the Copperhead and Rattler are no considered friends of mine. I do allow any other snake to exist. If you want to reduce snake numbers, run cattle. Or cater to the hawk families. They will reduce their numbers.
On another note, Snake Fungal Disease has been detected in this state and is considered a real problem even for nonpoisonous as snakes do help control varmint populations.
