"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Stewart Martin Kubota has had some used Tier 3 tractors that looked to be in great shape last time I was over that way. I will probably buy another Kubota tractor in 2 years. Mine is still perfect but I want one with a bit more HP for thick brushhogging but still an L-series so I can haul it. Going to keep and retire my L3830 to the farm...

I bought mine at Springdale Tractor in AR...
 
Got a chance to run across the road. It's been mid 90's and windy since our small rain on Sunday so I was seeing if our plot was surviving...rocks are a challenge to plot but not impossible...

Acorns everywhere you walk...deer pictures dropped off tremendously since they began dropping a little over a week ago...

He is definitely on the short list of bucks I would like to see from my stand this fall. Not sure if he will go 150 but hopefully get the chance to groundcheck him ;)

Yes he has a bunch of mass and is just a solid deer all around...he has what I call a "fighting rack" not too wide, good tine length, and great mass all the way throughout. Keep him from getting face/eye injuries.
 
Nice bucks. I've got pics of two or three that may make the cut this year. I haven't shot a buck off my ranch, only two taken in two yrs...one by my grandson and one by my best friend who has a lot of sweat equity invested.
 
I did a little stand work while down there and replaced the feeder the bear stole.

It's full of corn now so he won't be able to pull it up to the limb it is connected to by the cable now...

I am pretty excited about our fall prospects. I don't have any cameras up on "home 25" yet but plan to soon. Our deer lease looks to be exceptional this year as well. I will probably not hunt the hollow where we live much until we start getting mature deer in daylight photos. Our deer lease is showing bucks moving at all hours so will focus there for the most part...

On the Hollow I have gotten pics of 4 bucks that are mature enough and a couple that are close. On our deer lease I have gotten photos of about 5 shooters so far.

Should be a good year for you on your large property if you can keep the trespassing to a minimum. Good luck to you guys!

The weakness this year is our absolute lack of rainfall. It is unreal...40 days and only .29" of rain has fallen and a high percentage of those days were mid 90's and windy drying everything out like a blow dryer. Our next shot at rain is tomorrow night and they are expecting less than 1/10th" for our area and then it is over another week before the next small chance...
 
You remember the saying "water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink"? Well if you look at a weather map of oklahoma you will see a large swath of rain across the state from southwest to northeast. Typically a rain like this will move from west to east and catch us on its way by...unfortunately this one is not moving. It has had almost the same exact line since yesterday morning when it began. Areas to our west have gotten several inches of rain. It got within 5 miles last night but pulled back to about 60 miles distance this morning. It is moving out today with no more chances in the 10 day forecast. We are at 42 days with only .29" of rain and that came 1.5 weeks ago in about 20 minutes. Temps have been mid 90's and windy the entire time and even though a "cold" front came through yesterday and last night that brought all that rain we are actually warmer than we were yesterday. Mid to upper 80's scheduled for this weekends bow opener. Thermacell will be in full use and I will not hunt in the evening.

Going to be an ugly fall because a huge portion of our forest have gone dormant and the leaves have already fallen with them going straight from green to brown. Acorns dropped early this year. Usually white oaks begin dropping first week of October...They have been dropping 3 weeks. Red oaks usually don't drop until first week or so of November...they have been dropping for the past week. Post oak acorns usually don't drop till late November. Have been dropping for the past week. Hard mast will be gone by November.

If I were a farmer I would be on suicide watch...
 
First day of our archery season and my first tuneup hunt. I call it a tuneup hunt because I use them to see what I need to do and what I forgot to bring. I wasn't exactly sure what time I needed to get up so I set my alarm for 5:15 in our camper. I awoke and ate breakfast and then as I was getting dresses realized I had forgotten to bring my camo hat. I just sprayed my every day cap down with scent killer. As I was putting everything on my 4 wheeler I realized I had forgotten my seat cushion which was more an annoyance than problem...now are seeing why I call it a tuneup hunt...

Left camp and realized I could make out treetops on the eastern horizon with it beginning to lighten. Made a mental note to get up 15 minutes earlier. Got to my parking spot and grabbed my bow and headed up a mountain I have hunted 20 years and sharing with bears the past 9...I mention bears because 1/2 way to my destination I ran into one in the dark who crashed through the brush "woofing"...after I cleaned myself up I continued up the mountain and found my treestand. 1/2 way up the tree my bow hanger I had in my back pocket fell out and so back down I went to get it...

Finally I am in my stand and got my bow hanger screwed into the tree and my bow pulled up and in place with arrow nocked. I checked my phone and it was 6:57 AM...leave earlier...
I was getting ready to put my face mask on when I heard footsteps in the leaves so I grabbed my bow and noticed 3 does coming my way...naturally they came in and circled completely around me getting my wind...nervously stomping feet...checking out my entry route...and finally committing to going to some week old rice bran which was surprising as I could hear acorns falling everywhere.

They perked their ears and looked up the mountain and I finally noticed a doe working her way down picking up acorns and passing at 50 yards going down hill. Eventually 2 of the does in front of me got nervous and ran 50 yards to my north and stopped. I heard squirrels barking to my west down the mountain and all of a sudden a big buck ran up the hill and chased the 2 50 yard does up the mountain...I was hoping they would circle back but they never did...the single doe that was left hung around another 10 minutes and then went up the mountain...62 and breezy from the SE and dry as a bone...

Great wildlife pics, and I hope you get rain. I don't care how much the soil is amended, plants need rain.
 
Just because I know you'll appreciate it....New Tractor Supply opened in my hometown this weekend. Picked up a whole pallet of lime. $3 a bag, then they gave me 5% off for buying the whole pallet, then 10% off of that as all purchases were 10% for the grand opening :)
