"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Found a new rub today...30 yards off the west side of the south plot. If this rain would ever stop something might move in daylight!

We’re finally supposed to get a rain break tomorrow, I can’t believe I’m asking for a break in rain! Anyway, we have family pictures scheduled tomorrow afternoon. What a day off...

Okie - Just dropped in to see what was happening on your front and holy cow! Eli getting it done! And man, has he grown! I remember the earlier years when you would take him along and reminded me of the earlier years with my grandson, Jaden. Jaden is now 16 and involved in sports so don't get to hunt with him but a couple times a year. Eli is going to have more great memories with grandad than most kids ever will. When he's your age there's gonna be a lot of "remember when" conversations he'll be having with others. Good on you for taking the time to invest in family.

In the blink of an eye, we'll be seeing pics of Eli behind the wheel of that GTO. Time just keeps clicking right along. Takes a grandad to understand just how fast time goes by. One of the greatest thoughts on time is understanding that we don't simply restart every 24 hrs with a new day. More like an hour glass inside our body that every second, more grains of sand pass thru toward the end. Once that grain of sand passes thru, we never get it back and we're one grain closer to the last grain. Love the fact that you seem to make every grain of sand count! Keep on keeping on brother!

Isn't it interesting how fast the seasons change. We go from begging for rain to begging it to stop in the blink of an eye!

Forget about all these tree stands, just sit in the backyard.
On Sunday morning my wife saw a good 9 point out there and took her muzzleloader out to the corner of the house and looked it over real good and decided it needed a year...so far this season it is the only consistent place we see deer...

It’s been bad for muzzleloader season. Hasn’t stopped raining for more than 20 minutes since Monday and today rain and windy as all get out!

You put that into words very well. I have a little standard shift Nissan pickup that Eli and I took his deer to processor with and he was fascinated by the manual shift so I am soon going to teach him how to drive it. He is showing a lot of interest in the GTO’s as well. So far I am still “cool” to him. He has a little brother who is bent a little different I would like to get started teaching but most weekends he ends up at grandparents on other side since he is their only grandchild...
Did you make it to SD for your annual pheasant hunt?

Tomorrow morning looks good. Then back to windy and warm. Should be plenty of big boys cruising for bow and rifle.

we did not make it to SD. Covid has pretty much killed travel this year. Brooks and I are headed to Valentine, NE next Tuesday to bow hunt with my buddy that normally comes down here.

Oklahoma has major ice storm over the past few days...nearly 400,000 lost power. We were a few miles east of the freeze line so we just have had a cold constant rain and wind. I am in my blind typing this and a few gust threatened to carry it away so far this morning. Deer movement has been very spotty and even spottier yet since I really can’t hunt hunt where I want to which is down in the acorns. Watching green fields is not really my thing...

Valentine is a nice little town. When Christine was at Rosebud I drove through there every trip and since it was only 1 hour from where she lived we shopped and ate there quite often...good luck!

When that wind switches to south then my hunting here pretty much stops. We have 30 acres at Woodall though and a 1 week cam survey has shown some possibilities there though. We gave up our lease this year...

Is it also the only wind proof “blind” you have there or is it something else? Congratulations to Eli. He must be a very good shot to pull off shooting deer and large ones at that at such a young age.

When the weather is really nasty and it gets to prerut or rut it’s about as good a place to see a big deer as any...we have several “yard does” and the bucks just can’t resist. I don’t know how many times I have been over here in the big buck woods and my wife has texted...2 big ones chasing in the backyard...lol

As far as Eli goes he is very stoic and Has a very calm demeanor. He is methodical and doesn’t get shaken like many adults I have known. The last buck he killed was his furthest at 84 yards, the rifle is sighted well and he leaned off the corner of our house...the same corner that has been the demise of multiple hogs and deer. The buck went 25 yards. His doe this year was taken on our other property at 40 yards and she dropped at the shot.
