If you want to nuke it all, then spray in latter march / early april. If this is a designated food plot area, you may want to mow, spray, then overseed with whatever you'd like it to be.

I wish I could go back in time before my grandfather put Fescue in our fields at the suggestion of some county ag agent, and convince/stop my grandfather from following his guidance. Prior to Fescue, our fields were orchard grass, red clover, and bi-color lespedeza. The county ag agent suggested Fescue for the cattle and deer, and Sericea Lespedeza for cattle and turkey/quail. It has taken us 3 years of glysophate applications to reduce the amount of fescue in the plots, but the field a foot away is still fescue. We are getting a handle on Sericea which has only been about 7 years of spraying in the summer. This is a battle I intend to win.

We've done 2 applications of gly on approximately 25 acres of fescue. Have had great response, but after this second application some serecia popped up. Now have to start dealing with it.

Fescue is a cool season perennial. It likes cool weather. As long as you’re not getting extremely cold temps like below freezing for extended periods I would go ahead and use the clethodim now. As others have stated clethodim is effective on fescue and it won’t hurt your Durana. It may take multiple applications to get rid of it but it should work. Don’t forget to add the crop oil. Clethodim needs the crop oil to be most effective.
