What % of red clover gets eaten?

I have a little red clover, but not much. For anyone that has enough of it, do the deer eat the entire plant to the dirt, or do they take the tops and stop?

Mark, my deer are picky because we have an abundance of food compared to the size of the herd. Yet, they eat stem and all. I personally see it preferred over white clover in my area.

I agree with Native. My deer hammer red clover. Wish I could get it to last as long as Durana.

Hard to tell when they keep it mowed down low. Is it because they are eating it a nip at a time from the top down, or because they are taking the whole plant from the bottom up? I get to watch deer eat a lot. Lots of times when they lift their heads clover is hanging several inches out of their mouths.

There are times when it’s more attractive to deer, and other times, less so. For plots I don’t intend to rotate, I mix it with whites. If I know I’ll rotate soon, I prefer it to whites because of it’s faster growth. When they are on the red, they’ll eat it all.

I don't care so much if or how much RC gets eaten. Its a great soil builder, quick growing 2 ft deep ground cover mixed in with the grain.
Deer don't go crazy here over RC. It ranks well below my alfalfa, WC, WW, then WR w deer attraction thru most the year. Brassica beat it all if I get them to grow before browse.
RC is in all my mixes and all overseeding efforts.
