What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

I love testing different broadheads every year. This year, I plan to test the Spitfire Doublecross and the Grave Digger. While Slick Trick's remain my head of choice for Hogs and Elk, I've become a real believer in quality mechanicals for deer sized game. What are you using?

I've killed a bunch of critters with Rage heads and their predecessor (Rocky Snyper). If I could only hunt deer with Rage Hypodermics, my confidence would be very high (but I'd be bored not testing other products:))

I shoot fixed blades off my recurves and longbows. Either a VPA 3 blade or one of the new Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear 2 blades (made by VPA). I like the fixed blade cut on contact heads to help with the penetration. I have had pass thru shots on deer, hogs, caribou and black bear and I only shoot 50#-54#.

Rage Hypodermic's, unless I'm feeling frisky and put a Rage extreme on. Apples to apples, I like the Hypodermic's better. I'll probably be done searching for a better broadhead. I've lost 1 of about 30, and it was totally operator error :(

I'm sticking with the NAP Killzones, I figure if I can cut a deer in half with one I should be able to bust ribs on an elk?

But I would be interested in your opinion Elkaddict.

I've killed deer and hogs with Killzones. Love the blade sharpness and the ferules have proven tougher than I would have predicted. I have found that the longer ferule shifts point of impact out at 40yds or more. Would I have confidence on elk. Yes, but they wouldn't be my first choice. Exit wounds are essential on elk in my opinion, and I would sacrifice cutting diameter to increase the likelihood of a pass through (I feel the same way about Rage heads that are 2" or more. I know some guys use them successfully--I'd bet they're shooting heavier arrows at higher poundage than I do (I shoot 390g arrows in the 295fps range).

Good old Muzzy and Thunderheads. Did buy a pack of NAP Slingblades last year. Have not shot a deer with one yet though. My first foray into the expendables.

Slick Tricks, See no reason to change or experiment with others. They truly fly just like my field points out of my rig. I played around with some rage's for a year until I gave the slicks a chance and I never went back.

Shot everything under the sun in last 38 years of bowhunting. Rage 2 blade was my favorite for a long time. Switched when I had a bad result in poor angle that should have been an easy kill. Facing hard away. Saw arrow glance off instead of penetrating. It was weird. Last 3 years tried a bunch more. Settled on slick tricks. Amazing broad head. Best combo of toughness and tune- ability ever.

Slick Tricks have been the most accurate. Muzzy has also been good(probably a cclose second for me). I like thunderheads but have some trouble getting them to group with f.p's.

Hard to go wrong with Muzzy, Thunderheads or Slick Tricks. I'm a Slick Trick guy now but shot Thunderheads for my first 15-20 years. Can't bring myself to try mechanical's. Too many stories like Massey's. I practice with broad heads anyway so matching to field points for me is irrelevant.

Old Rage double 2". Have had couple packages for at least 8 years so not much need to buy new. Good luck so far with them. I shoot Hellraisers 3 blade solids on the recurve. I like them so well, thinking of using on my compound this year. Last years buck I shot hard quarter away with entrance behind last rib and had pass thru with the Rage. Nailed one lung but just clipped the other. Made for long trail. I just keep thinking had I hit that last rib, at 25 yds, the Rage probably would've not done its job, but then possibly no type would. And I just like to mix things up for variety.

I shot the Slick Trick Magnums for years and loved them but have shot the Rocket Meat Seeker 3 blade for the last several years and like them too. Rocket is kind of in limbo with their broadheads right now so I'm not positive what I will shoot this season.

I have killed a few with rage hypodermics, I like rage extreme as well. I tend to aim low, miss low. I like shooting them with a big cutting surface. I like slick tricks as well. I am going to shoot those new NAP switchblades this year, they look bad A, and will cut a HUGE hole in an animal with the increased cutting surface. I think Muzzy made a similar style as well.

I am a fan of the rage 2 blade myself. To this point it is the only broadhead that I have used and I am two for two. No reason to change just yet. Interesting to get everyone's opinions on the topic though. There are so many good products on the market I just haven't had a reason to try anything else just yet.
