What Are Your Favorite Varieties of Pear

They are touted to be fire blight resistant in "the literature"

Apparently mine didn't get the memo..........

I planted one two days ago. FB resistance was one of the main reasons it was picked. I'm still excited about the tree, but now concerned also. We'll see...

What I was always told is they arnt fireblight immune but they generally can handle it and recover if they get it.

I'm in Zone 8 (south MS) and I have Kieffer, Moonglow, Southern Bartlett, Cousins, Southern Queen, Pontotoc, J Ledbetter, A Ledbetter, Pineapple, Flordahome, and Sugar pears. I also planted a bunch of rootstock I will be field grafting onto next year so I'm looking for different varieties that will thrive in the Deep South.

IME, Kieffer have some of the worst growth habits out there. My Orient pears seem to have the best growth and also were the first to produce pears. I'm still waiting to get pears from my kieffers.

Seems my Kieffer pears get wiped out by late frost every year since 2011. Always have a few pears that make it but much of the fruit is wiped out by late frosts. Orient's are much later blooming. Kieffers are already in full leaf and the blooms got waxed with the cold snap a week or so ago. Orient's are just now budding out. Also have a Bartlett that is just budding. I'd love to hear from some of the guys that have Orients. How have they done for you?

TC, my orient pears flower exactly with my Kieffers but my Moonglows are just starting to show bud swelling.

I don't have much experience b/c all of my trees got wiped out last year by frost but the Orients had pears the year before that which was the quickest of the 10 varieties that I planted. I'm headed to the farm tomorrow to show the property and will check out the orchard then but we have had some really cold nights recently and the trees were blooming weeks ago :(
