Weather Forecast?

How much do you trust the weather forecast before planting. I've got brassica seed arriving today. 40% chance of rain for the next couple of days. I drive myself nuts with hesitation, 2nd guessing, anticipation, and what not.
What do you feel comfortable with?

Where I live about 5 mins and thats if I make the forecast!

Last night just west of me about 40 miles got 3-4" of rain in a thunderstorm that was basically stationary. If it would have moved in a normal way I would have had a decent rain.

I don't trust a forecast at all. My place is notorious for missing out on rains. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many times this year I have had good storm fronts coming only to have it split just West of me sometimes within a mile and miss me entirely only to come back together just to the East. It really is uncanny and very depressing. I will sit and look at the radar and tell my wife there is no way this one is going to miss us but it sure enough usually does.

I have lost plantings before because of sure bets on rain that didn't come. Now I try and plant everything at the proper times to reduce my losses.

One of the most frustrating parts of food plotting is waiting on rain. In southern Ohio my plots should be growing like a sob. We've been hammered with rain last week and had a ok rain every 10 days or so.

Behind the house I haven't got hardly anything. Only thing keeping my plots growing is the morning dew. I missed a huge storm by about a mile last weekend.

Sometimes I just plant and hope for the best. I normally will plant if it says 60% chance for multiple hours or days.

I rely heavily on hourly forecast. Seems to be more accurate at times.

We just planted some in northeast Kansas about a week ago. I would say to this point we have been extremely lucky as I believe our plots have had two 1 inch rains on them already. I am hoping the good fortune continues!

Knowing when to plant based on the weather is a complete gamble really. We are basically relying on an educated guess! We do like to see a couple chances of rain in the following week or so when we plant. This is always a plus.... outside of that we usually get our planting done when all of us can get together to get it done. After that we hope and pray for rain!

I started my plots last Thursday and finished up Saturday and got an inch overnight on Sunday. Got more rain yesterday and woke up this morning to a flash flood warning at the farm. I got more rain than what I needed. Last night my farm logs says I got half an inch between 3 and 4 this morning and then the train of thunderstorms started.

You guys who get rain in July and August are lucky...Here it's like those shows you watch on the discovery channel of the dry season in Africa :(
Most of the time the rain we used to get came thru your part of OK and up the 44 corridor. The rain we have been getting as of late is coming out of the northwest. Since 4am we have gotten 2.65 inches of rain and well over 3 inches since yesterday morning.

I did manage to get 2 inches out of all that rain. Places all around me had up to 6 inches. 6 would be too much in those kind of storms. Just South of me a town had 2.6 inches in 40 minutes.

I have had 7.5 inches since August 1st here in central Missouriflood1.jpg . Arrived to the farm yesterday to this. Next weekend I will be putting skids on before I flip it back over. Then I can move it.

I want 2 days in a row with chances of rain 50% or better before I will seed Mt plots. Try to time the first 2 weeks of September for planting. Sometimes I need rain just to soften the earth so I can till. It's rare for me to not be able to get my plots in during that time frame in September. Always wants to rain opening weekend of dove season

Was able to broadcast seed Wed. during a lull in the rain. Finished up mowing in the rain. Was soaked by the time I was done. Planted a few strips in another plot that I have BW on Thursday. Thatch wasn't as heavy as I would've liked but time will tell. Went from worrying about getting rain to wondering if we got too much. Rained every day except for Saturday. Ended up getting about 1-2" Friday evening in about 45 minutes.Dropped my cellphone while opening up my culvert under my driveway. My kids almost learned a few new words...... Guess what I have to replace this week.....

Oklahoma has been very spotty on rain...my wife and I own 2 properties and we lease a 3rd. They all are in the same county with our lease actually boring about 1/2 in Cherokee and 1/2 in sequoyah county. Where we live here on our 80 in the northern section of Cherokee county we were extremely dry but I guess the past 2 Saturday's Kansas decided to share a little and we got a 2" rain a week ago and a 1 1/2" rain yesterday which has granted us a reprieve.

I have been working around our home 10 which is south about 30 miles from here and we have only had 2/10's of an inch since the beginning of July... it's extremely crunchy down there and I sprayed my plot areas today even though it looks like the Serengeti in the dry season :(

Go further south another 30 miles or so to our deer lease and it is really lush because the rain paths seem to definitely run through there.

Hopefully I can put fall plots in here in about 2-3 weeks...
