I hung a vine up about a month ago on a logging trail in an effort to see if I could get the deer to use it. Now they have not beaten a path to it, but they certainly have checked it out. Bucks and does alike seem to give it a sniff and the like. I have my cam set on video and it isn't a high quality cam so sorry the pics are crappy......let me know what you think of the last pic.....it he a you piebald deer???

This has been the biggest visitor thus far.

I also have a few young bucks in the area.....

And then this guy who I am interested in because his coloration has me asking some questions.....

I think you are seeing deer slowly change from summer coat (more red) to a fall/winter coat (more brown). I could be off, piebald should be very distinct. I think it's the low light shot.

I simply cut about a 3 foot piece of grape vine (about 2 or 3 inches in diameter) and hung it from a large branch that reaches out over the logging trail and I hung it with some 550 cord by standing on my tractor. The sap from the vine I think started the deer interest and now it's the scent of the other deer.

Sorry - this idea/concept has been around for a while. I don't recall exactly where I first saw it, but it's a fairly common thing. I have others lashed to trees like a horizontal rub set-up as well, but I don't have cams on those. I was surprised how well the deer have taken to this one. I honestly think it's more about location than anything else.
