CTM, I'm accomplished at taking pics and our second and third string bucks.... I saw the 1rst stringers last of rifle and late MZ season but was too sick to take advantage of the opportunity last fall. Thing is, several of our best bucks will disappear for hunting season only to show up for late winter groceries. I'm actually ok with that--it's seeing numbers and the anticipation of the first stringers that really motivates me. If blood lust for a big buck hits hard, TX is a few hour flight away.

I got some help and was able to finish our grain/clover planting. I've simplied my approach (no radish/peas). Some are oats/triticale with red clover, and some substitute ladino/chicory for the red. My decision is based upon the likelihood of not rotating for a couple years.

Awesome looking bachelor group you got there.
I've noticed in my area that the deer are really hitting the apples hard as well. We've had a great apple crop this year. The total opposite from last year.

If you know anyone with a drone that can fly over and do a movie of the plots it would be awesome.
Going to make that pic my screen saver as motivation to keep at this food plotting thing that I have a love hate relationship with.

Sometime back I mentioned a failed corn/bean plot where we only got 20% germination. Because the perimeter came in ok, I reseeded with various brassicas I had on hand because I at least wanted something to take advantage of the fertilizer. Brassicas came in ok, particularly the radishes. Most are golf ball size. There are still some bare spots that I'll broadcast oats and triticale into. One nice aspect of the plot is deer should feel very comfortable feeding amidst all the cover.

Nice updates Tom. Glad to see you have some very beautiful deer on your property this year again. Your plots and variety of planting look excellent as well. Gotta love those apples;some years they really draw. Keep those big buck pictures coming;they are real motivators for us guys who are also in heavily hunted areas. Your property is in a very serious hunting area; people from this area have flocked that way for fifty years to hunt deer; it is truly amazing that you have been able to grow deer to the age you have in such a heavy pressured area. Thank you for sharing your results with us.
