Had the crew down at the farm this weekend and did my old faithful standby, go-to cook...grilled chicken halves. But...in the spirit of always serving an appetizer prior to the meal I decided to try something I've never tried - pigs feet. That's right...pig's feet.

I was in Bells grocery in Lexington picking up chicken and sides and planned on picking up sausage to grill as an appetizer. Then I saw these pigs feet next to the chicken. Decided to give it a whirl. Bought a pack of 4.

Here's 3 hours into a slow cook on the Traeger....looked fantastic.

Pulled one off the smoker and decided to try it before the gang showed up. Ended up throwing it and the rest down in the woods. Pigs feet ain't this ol boy's cup of tea.

Saved the day with grilled chicken halves. Everybody went to bed with full bellies...

Here's where all the grilling takes place.

Really nice cooking/gathering area, Pigs feet or not

Just curious about the pig's feet because I have never tried them. Was it the flavor, texture, toughness or all of the above that didn't suit you?

I have eaten a few pickled pig feet back in my younger days, never had a grilled one:eek: I did try some fried pig snout in the St. Louis area a year or so ago, like chewing on an old car tire!

It was texture more than anything. Mostly bone and cartilage. And gristly fat. Flavor was definitely pork.

You are a brave man 3C. But congrats on still trying new things, I preach that to my kids all the time.

I have not ever found anything I wouldn't eat....yet. I have ate pickled pigs feet, although not the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth they definitely rank right up there and I have ate some pretty nasty stuff. The chicken and fresh maters look amazing!

We fried some gar fish during a catfishing weekend camping trip. Will never try that again

As a kid we had a 300 hog feeding floor that I had to shovel off enough times to know what pigs feet are marinated in! I'll have to pass!

There's a reason we ship pigs feet and chicken feet to other countries. On that note, I had pickled donkey meat once in China and that would've made an old car tire downright delicious by comparison. Funny thing was, the big scandal at the time was that Walmart China had sold packages of donkey meat that was actually fox meat.....people were up in arms that they'd been cheated out of their donkey.

Know what you mean.We raised sows in farrowing crates and fed on a concrete slab. Did not mind shoveling off the slab into the wagon, but shoveling the wagon off out in the field after it sat in the July sun for a month.... Lets say a dirty diaper ain't nothin to this nose.
