Trail Cam Not Shooting Deer

Good morning folks - my first post on the forum.

I have a Moutrie trail camera set up near by deer feeding station in a remote beaver meadow and I know deer are walking past the spot, because we've had early snow and their tracks are clearly visible. I am getting lots of pictures of squirrels and birds eating the grain, but not a single shot of a deer.

Funny thing is we moved the trail cam from an area where we were bear hunting and got thousands of pics (literally) of bears, but so far not a single deer picture. The deer activity hasn't been heavy, but there is a big buck based on his tracks and the fact he walks right past the food ( in search of does, I am presuming, given the rut) using the beaver meadow. I can't figure out how he remains invisible when his tracks ion the snow are so clearly visible.

Appreciate any thoughts - thanks!!!

My best guess is that the camera was slow to trigger, so by the time the camera took the picture the deer already walked by, which makes it look the birds triggered it. Other than that, I don't know

If you have the cam at a 90* angle to the meadow, try repositioning it at a 45* angle. This might cure the slow trigger problem as the subject will be in the detection field longer. Moving it back may also help. If that's not it, I'm at a loss to say.

Welcome to the forum! That's a baffling issue with the camera. You probably considered all the simple stuff already, are the deer too far away or too close, is the camera angle too high? Trail Cameras are notorious for just randomly having issues when they are on their last legs. I had one very expensive model that had trigger issues where it wouldn't take a picture of anything that was moving fast. This is my best guess, the deer moved to fast as they went through the cameras field of fire. Probably not what you want to hear but, use it for target practice and get a new one.

My question would be how old is your camera and do you leave it out year round? It seems the older they get the more issues that start to arise. I had a cuddy back that I put back up this year that shows 1500 pictures or more but not a single picture could be viewed on the computer. I put new batteries in and it did the same thing when I returned a month later, tons of pictures showing but not one was visible. I tried resetting factory setting and reformatting but nothing works. They are cheap enough now days so I just replaced it. Might hit an early Black Friday sale and replace with little investment, no sense wasting what little hunting time there is working on the camera, when you got a good buck visiting your area. Try the reset button, new batteries or do an online search for trouble shooting at moultries web page, good luck and I hope you get your deer.
