This buck

So far not so good. Dont know where all the deer are, but ive seen TEN DAMN BEARS in the last 4 days, and had a butthole puckering 15 yard faceoff with a sow with 2 cubs while hiking around 200 yards uphill from my camp. Starting to wonder if all the deer turned into bears.

Can y'all not kill bears in Washington, or the season not open ?

Oh we can, i could have, and in hindsight should have, had several opportunities, but i didnt want to because packing and butchering would keep me from hunting that big buck for a couple days. Now im out of the woods, about to leave town for work until about halloween, and by then those deer move due to snow, so not only are my odds of getting the buck i was after now hovering around zero, but i passed up multiple opportunities to fill my freezer with bear meat. Oh well, lesson learned... a bear in the hand, a buck in the bush something something...

I guess a guy always wants something different than what he's always had, in my case it's a bear. I've always wanted to hunt them, just never wanted to go to Canada. :)

Love bear hunting, and i love bear meat. Usually i wouldnt have hesitated, but i just KNEW this buck was going to show up any day, so i didnt want to miss my chance. Guess i cant be right all the time. Maybe ill get a late season bear while deer hunting early november. Will have better coats and more fat on em by then anyway. One bear i could have killed last week... he had so much fat on him that every step he took he jiggled like a sack full of jello. Wish ida taken him, bear fat is awesome stuff.
