Things That Last Forever

Cleaning up my end of season crap and realized as expensive as some things are for hunting anymore, that there are some things very cost effective that seldom need replaced.
-Bowstring wax... pretty sure I've had this same tube for 30 years! What a bargain
-Solid fixed Broadheads. The more recent I've used are the 3 blade Hellraisers with my recurve. Same 3 for at least 8 years now. Shot numerous deer and just resharpen and good to go again. Shot a doe, then couple wks later with same blade, took buck shot went thru near thin edge of shoulder and buried into the opposite shoulder. Took some effort to dislodge, but resharpened and back on the bow again. Graphite arrows are a close second to perpetual.
-Carbon scentlock under garment. Not sure it really works. Not sure it can wear out.
-My old treebark camaflouge coveralls. Still good but damn dryer has shrunk them too tight too wear anymore after 30+? years.:)
-My first recurve, at 50$ used. Still shoots its original cedar arrows pretty good.
So see, we don't need to replace EVERYTHING each year. We are lucky.
Any others????

Yes, that 1989 Toyota pickup listed for sale, 280,000 miles Asking $5000. Surely it's worth 5K. Don't worry about the Space Shuttle mileage cause those things last forever!

I bought a set of Swarovski binoculars in 2003. One of the few things I own that is really built to last a lifetime. Impressive quality isn’t always inexpensive but could be considered a bargain if it’s a one and done purchase.

Great point about the fixed blade broadheads. I go through a good many of my preferred replaceable blade heads every year. At the very least I’ll purchase new blades. I’ve been looking at the extremely high quality heads that Bishop makes. They’re made out of tool steel and have a lifetime warranty. Much higher quality steel than the typical $40/3 pack heads but they are expensive!

20-25 years ago I bought a tube of bore butter for my muzzleloader. The guy said it would last 30 years and I’m still using that tube.
I just bought a pair of Swarovski binoculars. I hope to get the rest of my life out of them.

My first Leopold VXII scope 30 years ago still kills deer, 30 yr old Schrade lock back folder field dresses them. One common theme of this thread is that it pays to buy quality products and take care of them. And my Baker treestand never wears out. Because I don't use it anymore.

My Ruger Old Model Super Blackhawk, circa 1962. Still shoots better than I can hold it ! I just bought a 2X Nikon for it though, 'cause my eyes ain't perpetual these days. :(

Old Case pocket knives. Got an Elephant Toe circa 1980 that I handed down about 8 years ago. Skinned many, many critters with it over the years.

How bout old hunting jackets, shirts n stuff. Cabelas jacket circa 1989 with a couple of magazines that were worth reading back in the day. Wife framed mags in a shadow box and thank goodness, kept them thru a number of moves cause she read the bear stories to the boys so many times.

Remember when you anxiously waited for the Cabelas catalog to arrive each year? No stores outside of NE and way before online ordering. And to top it off... made in the USA. Had to post a pic of this jacket after seeing Baker wearing the same jacket in radish thread. Can’t wear these things out.

Original Realtree camo from Rattlers Brand circa 89 or 90. Chamois shirt. Made in USA and still going strong 30 years later.

The joy of an outdoor lifestyle has lasted my entire life. When I was young it was how many and what I could shoot or catch that brought me joy. That has evolved over countless permutations as I have aged till now where it is about being outdoors with friends and family, growing things from worms to trophy deer, living off the farm with garden and game, and simply breathing in clean pure woodsy air. Nonetheless being outdoors has been the driving passion and joy my entire conscious life and influenced nearly every decision I have ever made.

Now the Jacket Triple C notes has been along for the ride a long long time. And yep, pretty sure I can dig up one of those camo shirts as well.

I protest! This isn't a fair topic.... You guys are talking about things that happened back when I was still collecting baseball cards and playing with my Star Wars action figures!:D

jbird...Here’s a pic of the greatest camo pattern of all time prolly before your time - Trebark. Pic was taken in 1995 way back up in the hills near Huntington WV. Took my boys up there when they were still in school. Old friend’s cabin. I loved that shirt. Had matching pants but somewhere along the way I’ve misplaced them among the moves. Hope I’ve just got em packed away as I’d love to wear that shirt again. Wish someone would acquire the original trebark camo pattern and start making it again. Bought that shirt around 1986.

3C - I had an uncle or two that hunted back in the 80's and I remember seeing them in their "tree bark" camo. Things where certainly different then....both in technology and the mindset.

Well if we want to see how far back...here you go. Hand me down from my dad that he wore in the early. 60s. My early bow hunts were this and pair of wool army surplus pants that were made to fit someone 50# more than me. It’s been dry cleaned and hung in protection to preserve for who knows? Don’t remember ever caring and don’t remember deer ever caring. Cool stories from everyone. Sorry you are so young j-bird!
