Plot prep for AWP’s, BFO’s, clover/alfalfa/chicory mix, and some brassicas going in next weekend or the following. It’s about 1/2 acre. About half true throw and mow other half dragging to scratch the surface a bit. Will drag again once fertilizer is down.

Everything looks nice and green. Deer hit your pumpkins usually?

First year planting them. So we’ll see! I’m already planning on a strip of them next year in our field where we actually have a stand set up. This is just a garden experiment to see if they’ll utilize them and my little nephew wants a pumpkin(s) for Halloween.

Plot #2 planted this weekend. 1/2 mowed, then dragged, then planted. Half typical throw and mow. Got a little rain today. We’ll see if it’s enough to get it going.

Got the frame together for the soft sided red neck. Will try to get it up on the platform yet this weekend.

Tilled a few strips down here and threw out some WR and GHR.

Rest of plot is coming slowly. Very little rain since planting 3 weeks ago. Did throw and mow with this.

Field plot starting to fill in. These pics are from Friday. Looked even better today. Had 4” of rain on 8/28 after only 0.4” since planting on 8/1. The tilled areas on the sides planted with WR and GHR have come up well with the 4” of rain. Only two weeks since planting.

Deer are hammering the field plot. For what I thought might be a busted plot, it’s turned out pretty good. Getting hundreds of pics on it way. Way more than any other spot on the property. I think it’s safe to say these deer like their cereal grains. They are keeping the WR and BFOs down to a few inches.

Decided last weekend that we wanted another gun location for my dad so I got to work building the base and ordered another red neck soft sided blind. $350 plus free shipping. Spacious 6’x6’. Not the best time to build since wood prices are ridiculous right now but it’s 70-80 degrees his weekend and the youth hunt. First time the base of the blind will be more expensive than the blind itself. Usually pretty even.

Here’s part of the base. Half way up. Should be some good views. Can see the field plot to the right.
