Another seed apple from Morse, this one is more crabapple and drops in September.

3rd morse seed apple, think the coons played havoc on the limbs for this one.....

Count me in for some of those scions of that crabapple!! Looking to add more on my place for pollination and anything that drops late, is a bonus!!!

Great! That seed grown apple tree sure looks like a winner. How late did they hold last year?

Maya, where are you located? I picked galas a few days ago, which is a little ahead of schedule for me. Yours look fantastic.

Fish, Vermont, thanks just added that...... Liberty.

Honeycrisp in my tall spindle orchard. We just picked our first crop of the year yesterday morning of Pristines. Time to get out there now. We will be picking Zestar! Wednesday or Thursday.

I have a HC on M111 and it is the slowest growing apple tree I have. Planted in same site of other varieties on M111 but with 1/2 the vigor. This year was it's 3rd leaf for me and not much larger then when I planted it. Is that normal for HC?

Slowest growing trees I grow in the nursery. The variety is know for low vigor.

DD, yes slightly slower, but they are also biennial bearing, so do not overcro

They are slightly slower DD, but not that bad, you have something way off in soil or something. I get 2-3' of growth per year easy. These are some in 09 2nd leaf............

....and 2011 being dug up and sold! LOL I do know they do better fruit quality wise in northern climates like here in Vermont. Maybegrowth wise too???

I don't think it's the soil. I did a soil sample last year and everything looked good and other apples in the same orchard are showing much better growth. Maybe it didn't have as good root system--who knows.

Ya, that could be. It's not the variety.

I wonder if it isnt the hot dry summers, eventhough mine are watered in the nursery they are in general the smallest trees in the bunch every year.

Maybe somewhat smaller, but he's talking hardly any growth in three years. Maybe it is your warmer climate down there w/ them. We are getting a heck of a good soaking rain right now. How's your weather been lately?

.40 hundreds in the last 3 weeks! I would love a good soaking 2" rain. Sept and Oct are more promising for that kind of rain though.Unless you are lucky and get a good thunderstorm over you during July and Aug chances are pretty slim. Thunderstorms bring their own problems so sometimes its better just to turn on the irrigation.

Another thing that seems to really cause a lag with say the HC and Goldrush is that if you dont get them sprayed the CAR really seems to keep them from pushing much growth until late in the season. I have noticed that the last 2 years. My problem is I dont tend to group my trees solely by variety in the nursery so I have not sprayed for CAR. This next year I have told myself that I will group those 2 so that I can spray for CAR, everything else I grow is CAR resistant or is barely affected.

I have a HC on M7 that was grafted in 2015. It is now about 5-6 inches tall. I'm uprooting that sob and replacing it w/ something else next year. LOL!
